View Full Version : Just bought a very cool shock

I just bought a very cool shock that I have been looking for off a friend.
Any guesses?
Model of trike?
Year/years of trike?
Manufacturer of the shock?
Who built the shock/set-up it up?
Who wound the spring?
(I know the answers, but let's play for fun) I did have to rack the brain when I saw it.
***Hint, one like this was in a magazine article***
### Bonus- Who was one of the guys responsible for the set-up/build### The winner gets a free trike shock rebuild including returned shipping from me!
Let's mix it up and have some fun!

BTW, this shock will be restored/rebuilt for a trike I did own, but do not currently.
Time to start shopping.

Is it for a 85-86 ATC 250R?
Looks like a Race Tech build and setup? Maybe Works Performance?
No idea on the bonus! Ha. That's my best guess!

Definitely for a 83-85 atc200x, probably an '84. Works performance is my guess. Built by mugen. Spring wound by someone who wound springs for a living.
I should get at least one of them right.

.
Since mfg's change their shock style over the years, it's nearly impossible to be certain unless one has seen that exact style before and knew at the time what it was, but it has a very White Power style look to it.

Mine is on an 84 with a plus 2'' calfab and i have never seen another. My canister is also some funky anodized color but still has the sticker.

Honda 200X yes, 1984-1985 yes, not sure on the 1983 tubular swing arm, it's been a while since I held one, but let's say yes.
The- "Spring wound by someone who wound springs for a living" is not what I am looking for- (Name of product, company that made the product)

Yes, WP was short for White Power the famous Dutch shock company.
For fun-
Who owns them now and where are they now made?
How did they come up with the name White Power?
Why did they change to WP?
You guys just need to put it all together and add in the rest for the win.

White Brothers also made a swingarm that your shock might have been attached to.

From fading memory, White Brother was bought by Vance and Hines in so cal, but they do not have any white bros parts.

My guess in the name is because their last names were white and they also built engines so they just added power to their last name....or they were in a white supremacist group....or both

84 200x and wp is the end of the line for me. I'm always just a bit off from the win. I have always been curious about this shock. And yes the calfab does say white brothers on it.

first guess on the spring mfg is progressive suspension then race tech but i think they had their springs made for them, then possibly ohlins.

The White Bros. took many items and rebranded them as their own, the Cal Fab's were one of them.
The White Bros. were HUGE and could sell a ton of items compared to a indy manufacturer,,, Man I miss them!
This company was later started by Tom White's daughter-

Man, I wish
Great shock, but for a trike (And most) they had very soft springs with a ton of preload and Euro type valving, not the greatest ride, but they are built very well.
If you were or are a MX bike guy Ohlins has been beat up pretty good for many years in the magazines, it's a shame they could not listen to what the US wanted/needed.

SHOCK AND SPRING
84 - 85 ATC200X
Sold by White Brothers
WP was founded in 1977 by Wim Peters, whose initials purportedly gave the company its name. That’s only part of the story, however, because for many years WP went by White Power. This made sense for two reasons: First, the company’s spring vendor manufactured hospital beds, so the only paint color it had was white. And second, throughout the 1980s and ’90s the US importer was White Brothers. At some point, however, someone realized that “White Power” had certain racist implications, so the name was changed to WP.

Wasn't that a $1000 buck set-up in the 1980's? (More?)

Yeah those TF pranksters!
I swear there was a trail there that comes in the backside around the fence somehow. Me and Porkchop found it when we got lost as F@#$ the very first day.
I cant remember who shut the gate or who said it was locked but it wasn't. I vaguely recall ppl trying to stop us before I rolled down a hill in the dark with a trike on top of me.
I suppose he told you about Super Dave doing a double gainer over the bars of an out of control Big Red after I offered to guide a leisurely night ride
I'll bet John and T3 and them had something to dowith it...they were camped at the gate lol

Jeff said he knows who tied the chain in a knot (I don't recall the forum name) I think you just wanted to torture the 200X shock I built for you at night!
No, I'm mischievous but closing a Gare after dark is dangerous. Naturally, it was a park employee who did it. We had just gotten through as they were closing it. I think we did warn a couple people, and then someone came and opened it back up. Maybe it wasn't locked so we opened it back up? Can't quite remember.
