I was just watching some welding videos on YouTube (I need to find new ways to screw up my projects, the way I screw them up now is very basic) and one of th he video s was showing how factories in China just pump out fast, cheaply welded frames and the attached screen shot was part of th he video. 224322

Interesting. Bet they are destined to be cheap commuters for use in Asia. Lots of countries still rely on the three wheel design for easy to handle road machines. Look at the history of the Tuk-Tuk.

I hope you're not insinuating that the Japanese factories had frame welding down to an art when they were pumping out three wheelers in the 80's. Before robotics and aluminum frames their hand welding of steel was horrendous.

Those appear to be electric powered.
There were some 125cc(?) Chinese trikes sold in the early-mid 2000's. They were talked about for a good bit, some people were able to buy them, then the trikes seemed to go out of production just as fast as they appeared, keeping them from progressing to a more performance styled type.

The reason they didn't last long was due to Honda. American Honda convinced the CPSC to reinstate the trike ban and keep the china three wheelers out of the US. They were afraid china trikes would destroy the reputation of ATVs and hurt their sales.

yeah...actually the permanent ban of new or new manufacturing of 3 wheeled atvs was thrown into the "lead law" of sometime around 08. I never saw one, but heard about it and the big 4(who all made trikes at one time) were very upset about the chinese three wheelers. Based on the quality of the chinese quads and bikes, I would have never even thought of ever buying one, but tons of people buy the chinese clones. When they need work........haul them to the scrap yard, my old boss had one.......wow what a POS. He spend many hours and almost $200 to fix the rear brake, it didn't work long, brought it to a shop.......the guy broke out laughing and told him to haul it to the scrap yard and stop spending time/money on a inferior cheaply made machine. If its true, the big 4(probably was mostly honda) was probably afraid that the new and cheap three wheelers would cause another nose dive to sport atv market like what happened in the late 80's(even though 3 wheelers were blamed for it, but aren't the REAL cause it.....it was shear stupidity that led to better than 95% of accidents) and hurt atv sales even more than they already are.

And might I add that to make up for the loss in sales they just started making stuff cheaper, less reliable, and nearly impossible to work on for the common day rider. Try to modify a fuel injected motorcycle or atv. You cannot just remove the baffle and rejet. Now you have to modify the computer with another diagnostic computer. I like a simple engine.
As for a Chinese machine, all I can say is that you get what you pay for. The motors are decent, but everything else on the bike sucks... It's like a Ford... Oops. Did I just say that???
