Just after some clarification on how rim measurements are taken.

First off it confuses me because it's all in inches, and we use metric downunder. I want to get some new rims for my 350x as the current Douglas ones have taken a beating.

I would love some nice originals on the back, but chances of finding them are slim. Now my question is what is the stock rim size on an 86 350x? Is it a 10x9 inch rim? If I were to buy a 10x8 inch rim would that fit my OEM tyres that are 22x10x9? Or is the rim too narrow?

Thanks for any help, always been hopeless at the tyre thing!

.
you can get a lot of info by looking at the site below.

http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/ATV/1985/ATC350X+A/REAR+WHEEL/parts.html

i dont know the rim width on that but someone else here will, however, my guess is that it is 9 inches wide.

you can put 10 inch wide tires on either 9 or 10 inch rims . . putting them on 10 inch rims will reduce the sidewall flex and "roll over" tendency.

the rim width is measured with the tire off between the two edges the tire sears on . . its possible to measure it with the tire off but it is hard for me t explain.

heres an inches t mm calculator

.
also, some tires have a bit of a radius/crown to them on the tread meaning that the tread is not perfectly flat and some tires have a very flat thread.

also, tires come in different plies . . 4 ply is the most common . . 2 ply is a softer ride but rolls over a bit more . . 6 plies are pretty heavy and have the firmest ride and least amount of roll over but are rarely used on a 3 wheeler and are more for 4 wheelers that travel rough terrain.

tires will always be wider the rims

9" rims are either 8" wide or 9" wide
8" rims are either 8" wide or 8.5" wide.

You can put all kinds of tires on them.

10x9 or 10x8 rims do not fit...they mean

10" diameter by 8" wide

you want 9x9 rims or 9x8 rims for a running a tire allowing for 9" rims.
you want 8x8 rims or 8x8.5 rims for running a tire avowing for 8" rims.

20x10x9 Tire

20" diameter tire x 10" wide tire allowing for 9" rim

It should be labeled 20x10R9. You can run a 20x11x9 also. There are more 11" wide tires then 10" because the 1" is not going to make a F*ck

Thanks guys. Don't know if I'm more confused than ever but I kind of get the gist of it.

If I were to buy a 10x8 inch rim would that fit my OEM tyres that are 22x10x9?

Your tire is 22 inches in diameter and 10 inches wide and fits a 9 inch diameter rim.

You can use 9 inch diameter rims that are anywhere from 8" wide to 10" wide with anywhere from 8 to 9 inches wide being best imo.

Wonder if the stock tyre would look funny on a 8 inch wide rim?
