Hey Guys ,My latest restoration project, a YT125h is coming along nicely, however I hit a snag with re-upholstering the seat, the seat pan is cactus, 60% is ok (minimal rust), the other 40% is rusted to the point that there isn't any metal left for a new seat cover to attach to.

Just wondering if anyone has encountered a similar situation, and if so what did they do?

Basically there isn't a lot of these trikes around any more in Australia, any most part bikes that ever come up wont separate the seats.

Is it possible to salvage the pan, and attach new steel sections to the remaining steel? Would this be strong enough for the new cover?

I would really like to purchase a seat that has good upholstering and pan, but realistically I am dreaming.....

Any advice/comments much appreciated.I can upload a pic of the pan if needed.

Thanks in advance guys....

Thanks heaps for the advice, I appreciate it ,here is some photos of the pan, I know, it looks like rubbish, but I suppose in worst case scenario ,I have a template to fabricate something from scratch.

Even better if I could find a descent used pan..

Is eBay the best place to get the covers?

When I got this trike ,the seat cover was pretty much gone, surprisingly the foam cushion was in great condition, and I intend to re-use also.

If you could find those pictures ,it would be most helpful to me, as a visual guide in the upcoming pan resto.

Thanks again mate, for you words of wisdom.

Thanks again ATC King, that's exactly how I hope to get the pan looking like, I will add some pics when I have finished it, Hopefully this post can be a resource for anyone else with the same problem.

So I got the seat pan welded up, I didn't want to spend any $$ on materials , I found an old Honda ATC 185s chain case, the curves in it looked very similar to the shape of the pan that needed repair, so I chopped it up, it came up nice ,remembering it isn't going to be seen, also painted it & used the chain guard seal to go around the repaired areas to ensure that the new seat cover isn't cut into.
Fitted a new saddleman seat cover, and riveted in place. It came up alright I think..
