View Full Version : 1st Kawi 450 conversion
It's not completely finished but I figured I'd post some pics of my klx450 conversion. Jason Hall had this plan in his head, I'm just the lucky person who owns it. He used his triples and a 250r hub on the front end, made a custom chromoly swinger out back with trx450 components, modified a kfx450 subframe and seat to fit get a proper ride height. The goodies include hiper wheels, an axis custom shock, dominator 2 axle, rekluse clutch and a steering stabilizer (both came on the bike). The only modification he made to the frame was to weld 2 new subframe mounts, the rake was manipulated via the rear suspension and the trx450 footpegs are bolted to the frame via adapter plates. Unfortunately I wasn't able to race the trike last weekend because he is still working on a couple small things but it was complete enough to take for a test ride. I freaking love it and can't wait till its 100% finished. Here's some teaser pics, remember, the ride height will be a little different (had a loaner shock in) and it will have all new plastic and graphics when it is done.

Very cool! I want it. It sure would be hard to wait for it to be finished. I would drive the family crazy talking about it.

I like it. Looks very good.
Atc300r, sorry I didn't introduce myself, I wasn't really feeling 100% on Sunday. We're you on the #81 trike? Thanks guys

It looks like the front end is much higher than your tecate. Were you planning on lowering the forks? Or does it ride pretty smooth as is like that?

Thanks guys Yes I raced # 81.Its all good we will get a chance to meet.I didnt know the racing started early and I missed the open class. I had to hurry and get my 200x unloaded and make the gate.We where planning to camp but with the rainy weather we got a motel room my wife and I are just getting over being sick.Im planning to race more next season. Also going to try and make it to Mik6 ride.On my list for racing next year is Unadilla,Pinelake and Airmx.
Atc300r- If you can only make one, make it Unadilla. It's like riding a rollercoaster.
Jlucero- The tecate is still lowered from TT and drag racing. I don't think they would be far off if I raised the tecate to stock height.

Did you use HRE for the swinger? At some point I think you asked me and I see its round stock like he has been using last few years.

That makes sense. Is there a certain series that you guys race through? I don't wanna hijack your thread so if you could PM some info that'd be great!

Ok I want one!!!! Just awesome
I ran a couple of the NEEDT races which is a TT series. They also had a WNYEDT (western NY) series that raced at freedom motor sports (the same complex that has Air MX) but something happened and they canceled the last 2 races. The airmx weekend was supposed to be TT on Saturday and mx on sunday but that didn't happen. Idk what I'm going to do with the 500, I'm planning on getting a set of shortened forks and a lowering link for the 450 so I can pull double duty with it. I guess it's always good to have a backup, especially when that backup is a tecate 500

This is yet another Jason Hall conversion.
It has plenty of aftermarket goodies well....
I didn't ride it put I watched everyone smile that rode it, beautiful trike looking straight from the factory!!
So I guess you like the 450 more??
4 strokes are easier to race so I want to give it a shot. I'd bet the T5 is capable of going around a track faster, but for a less skilled rider like me the 450s are awesome

Yea I agree 4 strokes easier, but I still love 2 strokes more.

Very nice. How about some more in depth, detailed pics?
I'll post plenty of pics as soon as I get it back. The shock is at axis getting set up for the trike and Jason is installing heel protectors. He bought some and had them in time but he didn't like their square looks with the curved fenders. And for the 2 stroke fans, remember, an aluminum frame trike must get made first before an aluminium frame 500 can be made.

How do you like the rear tires on the 450? do they slide and hook up well? I'm temped to put a set on my KX100 trike.
I don't have much seat time on it old school but Jason said they hook up a bit too much. If I were you I'd go with the classic turf tamer. I had those on my rm 80 and they were perfect. They were half worn already when we put them on though, so you might have a little too much traction with those till you round them off a little
