I just wanted to put this out there because it's.....so dumb. I bought a 1987 200x for $600 that was smoking but seemed to run fine. I just got new gaskets and rings and went to install everything and then I saw it. The last person that worked this engine swapped the valves. The large intake was in the small exhaust port and the small exhaust was in the large port. It also bent the intake valve. I couldn't believe my eyes. So I ordered a new valve set and have to wait another week to ride while I wait. :(

Wow.. One would think that something didn't look right. Do you use that clamp thing to compress the springs to remove the spring retainers or do you use another method. I may do mine in the future and don't own the tool. I should probably invest in it.

I have a valve spring compressor tool. They are cheap on the ebay. Here's the one I bought.

That seem a bit better than my set up; I use a big C-clamp and a old socket that I have cut one side out of, made it in about 3 mins when I needed to replace a seal.

Thats all I use too. Works every time. Hard to believe it ran at all? If that much was screwed up I wonder what surprises you'll find in other areas.

If anyone is interested, I got my parts yesterday and fixed her up. Honed the cylinder, new rings, new springs, new valves, new top end gaskets, and a valve adjustment. BOY-HOWDY!!! Did Honda get things right in 87. That beast it QUICK and she does NOT want to go slow. Now to get new plastics, repaint the tank, and repro decals.

Here is how it looks. I think the tank is from an '86 since the decals are not right for what I see is supposed to be on the '87.
