I called CT yesterday and was kind of surprised to hear what they told me. I asked about the jetting on my pwk 39mm, they said i'm spot on for 50/50 race fuel,
I have 190 main, 58 pilot #6 slide DGH needle. called becouse it dont even idle for 3 seconds with out die-ing if you dont hit the gas. any way CT told me thats perfect you dont want it to idle,
if you get it to idle your jetting will be off, perfect jetting no idle.
Also i got the atc and it was loading up and sputtering off idle so played around with carb a bit come to find out the cable was adjusted giving it well over what the idle screw could.
Next question i asked should i buy there pipe or keep the fmf fatty, surprisingly CT said i would not notice much diffrence besides less low end torque.
just thought i would share that info, if you agree or disagree feel free to share your thoughts.

Uhm, so I might be alone here, but being a "perfect tune" when it idles for 3 seconds without dying unless you hit the throttle is some pretty bad advice. I don't care how high performance it is, an engine should idle. Buy either the CT pipe which goes with their motor package or I hear the ATC 5 pipe from ESR is a pretty good one.

I thought didn't sound rite either, but they insisted my engine wont idle if jetted properly. and other then that it does run good.

none of my race bikes would ever just sit there and idle like a stock bike will, i suspect it is a combo of over sized carb and ported cylinder that messes with the air pressure the engine can maintain at very low rpm but this is just a guess
the first gen Mikuni flat slide carbs did not even come with a idle adjustment screw, that is how little the importance of a bike being able to idle is taken by engine builders :)

I did put a 45 pilot in that made it idle but ran why to lean, any bigger don't idle.

how far out is your air screw?

My T3 doesn't idle. Has a 295 kit, ported, etc..

I played with the air screw a bit, i leave it at 1 3/4 turn. hard to adjust when it dont bring the idle up any, unless i use the smaller pilot jets.
Then it don't run good past idle. Any way ill just run it more this weekend see how it does.

I can see this topic possible getting out of control so this post is IMHO-
CT Racing is correct, and many top tuners will agree, for myself I have been running zero idle since about 1986ish.
There are many reasons, but without boring you all with a book long post I will just leave it to somethings to think about.
Click on youtube and watch the start of a MX or SX race, those bikes are race bikes and are high tuned, to the point where unless a racer has his pit guy blip the throttle the racer can't even blip the throttle hard enough him self to give him enough time to put his goggles on.
Some carbs have no idle
Some carbs don't have a choke
Some carbs are have a pilot circuit
Some carbs are modded to remove the idle
Some carbs are modded to remove choke
Some carbs are modded to remove the pilot circuit
I have never seen a bike/trike run better when properly tuned back to back with a idle
It may not be for everyone, but if you give it a try and get used to it and properly jet your bike you may switch like I did. (I can't ride a bike/trike with a idle anymore)
I am surprised at CT Racing's comments on the pipe, I have never ridden them back to back but would have guessed the CT would give you more upper mid to top end.

Turn your idle screw really high to keep it idling while you adjust the air screw. Turn the airscrew out/in and listen for it to idle higher. When it's at its highest idle by turning in/out then use this rule of thumb. Less than one turn out on the air screw with the engine idling at its highest then your pilot is too small, more than 2 turns out then your pilot is too big.

yaegerb , I understand the jetting rules in this case it just dont work, to get a pilot jet by the air screw rule, the bike will rev. out instantly.
I think onformula1 is correct and it makes sence, and the motor runs real smooth and revs high with out cutting out early, you just need to blip the throttle alot.
I wasn't posting this to argue about it, just thought coming from the builders of this engine was interesting info. also wanted to see how others run there ct engines.
as for the pipe yes i was shocked they did'nt try selling me it, I thought it was good advise and explained well, answered any questions i had.

no worries, you never know who knows what on the other end of a keyboard.

I never let my bike seat there to idle. I'm into getting the most power from tuning. I guess that's why my bikes have never idled.
