I've come across a '85 350X that has a bad engine. It's not in the best condition as it has been setting up for a while. Is it worth getting into(around $250)? I've attached better pictures below. Thanks!

the pictures are super duper tiny. You could end up spending a lot of money on it. Some experts will chime in, often it is just better to buy one that runs and drives in my opinion.
Wasnt ever too interested in 350X but saw one once that thumped so hard you could feel the thumps hit your chest and it shot blue flames out the pipe. I was really impressed and liked it a lot. Killer motor when built right I guess.
When I saw a 400ex engine in a 350X, I got more interested in them. Stuffing a 440ex engine in one seemed like a cool idea.

better pictures, and yeah that is my biggest concern is spending more money on it vs just buying a running one in good shape. I want one I can ride and not have to baby too much.

IMHO, pass if you are looking for a runner, but I would buy it for that money for a parts trike or it is worth more to sell off in parts.

That a parts trike. There is probrably $250 worth of parts on it IF you already had a 350x you were working on. It would take quite a bit of money to fix that P.O.S.

yep. parts trike. if it comes with the title then you could sell the frame for $200 alone.

ehh around my way i'd give that much for it and try to build a rider out of it. I saw a complete non-runner (minus tank shrouds and mudflap) on CL a few months ago for $1500...seems like around here people want at least 2500 for a beat down smoking trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpropile

Over in PA someone will ask 700-1000 for that as is.
Personal If you don't have a lot of money to play with buy it. Ride whatever you have now and rip it all apart. Even a nice runner will need something.
It couldn't be sitting that long. I say this due to the fork boots are the style I sell.
it may have an extended axle as the wheels look to be sticking out more then normal. The tires are ITP backwater tires...popular until mid 90's I think. Lets put it this way...I parted out a 350 in worse shape and made $2000 on it...that was after spend $700 for it.
If you spend $200 or $250 on that well the tank its self will sell for that on eBay used. So what's the worst the can happen...you make money? Parts bike bring a lot of cash...I'd know. got a $6000 engagement ring for free after parting some bikes.
3wheelers are like muscel cars...only nice ones are either unmolested costing a ton or nice ones build ground up...there is you well used beaters worth nothing.

You have some good points oldskool83. Thanks for that suggestion. The seller told me about the engine (his words).... "I ripped the boot on the top end started pushing oil out I shut it down. My brother decided to take it apart and left it in the weather got water down inside the motor".

motor is trash then.
cases can be saved, rest would be junk. so even then nor worth it. drain the fluids in it, fill every bit with krol oil. and let sit for a couple of weeks. then dump out and see if it spins, if it does, sell it for parts motor.
rest of the trike could bring $250 or so.

I don't know what the value of trikes in your parts of the country are but here in the new England states as that trike sits its worth 5-600$ up here. I would scoop that up for the asking price in a heart beat if that were for sale around me

Yeah I've reconsidered after thinking on it for bit. I am going to pick it up tomorrow morning. I'll post up some pictures when I get it back.

Yeah, dont pass that up for $250..... I'm surprised he still has it. Even if you store it away for a rainy day or winter project, I think you would regret not getting it. Good like, try to talk him down a but, and post somepics when you get her home!!!!

I went and picked it up this morning. At the end of the day I couldn't pass the deal up @ $225. It really is amazing what people let happen to their stuff. These pictures are how it came and from me getting it back and unloading it.

Glad to see that you bought it. You'd have been a fool not to!! Mine was in FAR, FAR worse shape then yours! Was in a fire, frame was rusted, engine had melted plastic all over it, cylinder was filled with water, crankcase had a mix of oil and water, no rear suspension, bent forks, sat outside for probably two decades... I brought it back from the dead.

I like buying a neglected machine. They are cheaply priced and once you give it some attention, they show you love. When your done with this build you will really know what you have. Piece by piece...
