I recently picked up a 350x roller for $150. it was abused frame has been welded in 5 places. i want to rebuild it and want to do it as inexpensively as possible. I think im gonna put a 400ex in it. anyone ever done this? any pointers? where do i need to beef up the frame if at all? etc.

I don't remember who sells it, but someone makes a frame gusset kit. Highly recommended. As for the 400ex, I'm not sure, but I'd think it should be a fairly straight forward swap. You may have to modify or even move motor mounts.

As far as the motor swap goes, I have no idea...that's waaay above my pay grade. Unfortunately, not many of the members come to the New Members forum so you may have to wait until you can post on the main forums.
That's a great buy for $150! I would think you could find an EX motor pretty cheap.
Have you done a search of the entire forum? I bet this motor swap has been done/documented several times on here. Or better yet, look for a 350x motor to put back in it. A LOT less headache! Oh, and welcome to 3ww!

Putting a 400ex engine in a 350x frame is actualy a good bit harder than you think, that's why it doesn't get done very often. In my years here at 3WW I can only think of 3 400ex swaps I've seen done, and only one of those was done well.

im a welder by trade so making it look good isnt any problem. it looks like people have done it and used the frame as a oil reserve. thats not really a good idea right. i mean u crack the frame and u dont know it and burn the valves and tranny up in 2 seconds. is there any other way?
