Yeah man there are lots of big powah mods for the 250r's, even the older aircooled's. I'll list some mods that are universal for all two-stroke bikes.

New airfilter with airbox lid removed
New pipe and silencer
Rejet for pipe and filter
New reeds and a reed spacer
Porting of the cylinder and polished head
Bigger bore size with a new piston
Larger carb
Smaller set of tires on the rear(20inch tall)for snappier acceleration and better handling

I'm new to the two stroke world, and as well have an 84 R that I am doing a resto on. I'm curious, what exactly are the reeds? I am comfortable with an auto engine, but when it comes to two strokes and these reed valves, my vision gets a little blurry.

Does anyone know if they make a Rad valve system for the early air cooled trikes and if it would be worth it to pick one up, or if a spacer and/or a new set of reeds would suffice?

heres a little list of stuff i had done to my air cooler;

Wiseco piston (if you want performance, GET one)
K&N air filter
Boyesen rad reed valve (the later year 250R ones will work)
ported and polished
Bigger carb
shaved flywheel
shaved cylinder head
lightened crank + rod
billet exhaust flange
Billet reed spacer
Liquid cooled head/kit

and a shitwad more stuff.,., but, to aswer your question, you can make them quick, not really fast....., i mean, i did all that stuff to my 84 R.,. then sold it, and got my 85 R, and my 85 R would smoke right past it., and my 85 only has FMF pipe and silencer, boyesen carbon fiber reeds, wiseco .40 piston, and a UNI air filter.
