I have '83 200X that I had rebuilt with a new top end, cam and 1st and 2ed gear. Over the last 4 years it has run perfect and still does but now the kick start gear is slipping? It occasioanlly jumps a tooth. I heard this is a problem on 200X's. Does this mean I have to tear thing apart to fix? If I did attempt to fix it, could I find the parts?

Is the kicker slipping on the shaft? Or is the whole thing slipping? If the kicker is slipping on the shaft you are missing a bolt in the kicker. No biggy just put a 10mm bolt it in ;)

did you preload the Spring after you tore it apart?

After doing some research I have found that there is a spring on the kicker shaft that is in the main cases that keeps the teeth together when rotating. Its held on by a snap wring. The tession of that spring gets bad and causes the kick gears to not hold together. I guess I'll have to deal with it. :(

i had a 200x that would do that....but if i put pressure towards the outside of the kicker....it would catch a little better. i dont know though....if youw ere to fix it you would have to split the cases too....and pull the piston out of the cylinder (unless you were good like me and could take the wristpin out w/o letting the piston come out ;) )

So have you or anyone else fixed one? Can I get the parts? I found out that there was a recal for this on 200X's. Unless you had the actual recall letter then its not likely any dealer would fix it.
