After getting to know Robin Riedel one day at Fremont Raceway he let me race the watercooled CR250 powered 1981 ATC250R he built and wow was it dialed. He and my Dad became friends and Robin helped us finish a number of our custom race bikes as he was a talented wielder and machinist with a full shop setup at his house.

Notice the radiators located under the seat and the Fox air shock

You can see my brother's Rob Sevly powered Nickolson framed 250R and my Nickolson frame CR480 on the trailer in the background. The CR480 was cool but the 4 speed transmission was hopeless and my Dad gave up on the bike after just a couple times trying to race it. It would do 40mph in first and 45mph in fourth.

I have some more shots of the 480 ill post later.

Relaxing in the pits with Robin's bike. That is George on the bmx bike and im the puddy little guy by the trailer.

Robin's bike haul butt.

Only color shot i found of it, notice the classic fire engine red motor from the 81 CR250.

Robin built a CR125 powered three wheeler for me to race at the 82 San Jose Nationals but i only found one photo of it so far and its after i had lost the seat halfway thru the main event, costing me any chance of a good finish. He made a jig for the frame and built the frame and swingarm from scratch. It was a great bike but i was quickly outgrowing smallbores and the 125 class never really caught on at the pro level so i only raced it a few times.

If i come across any other photos of Robin's bikes ill be sure to add them.

*edit* I found a couple more pictures of the 250.

WOW!!!, these pictures are great!

Thank You very much.

There's a few guys on this board that have been searching for pictures like these for years, myself included!

The Honda CR450/480 were horrible until the redo in 1983 then they became one of the best open classers ever.

You just don't see those old conversion bikes anymore ! This year at TF there seemed to be more modern conversion there than before. Keep up the pics it's fun to see how much this sport has changed over the years

I had and still have a Redline PL20 BMX bike and a few other vintage BMX bikes, but I was too young to get two girls, one was fun though.

My first one was a Redline 500A and later bought an RL48 (? freestyle vert model with extra spokes). There was a Hutch Trick Star between those two that I traded the 500A and a moped for.

I gave them all to my little cousins when I moved away to get my first place. I don't know where they are today

I remember getting Redline Flight cranks for mine, the crank arms where square and looked so bad ass. Loved my Redline (even if i never could ride it worth a damn). Factory Redline rider Stu Thomsen was the man in those days.

I had a Hutch Pro Raider that I miss dearly. Mine too was given to a younger cousin when I discovered cars and girls. He put it in a basement and never touched it again, but won't give it up. I've even offered to buy it back!
