Question about 350x rear sprocket, not what you think

OK guys, I have searched this topic and came up with goose-egg.

The question I have is about the rear sprocket flange on the 350x. What is it's purpose? And more importantly, is it detrimental to run the 350x without one in place?

I was checking out my brother's 350x over the weekend and noticed his has this flange and my wife's ride does not. I am trying to find some info in it and not having much luck.

It says it's a guide plate, but seeing this part installed on an actual machine, it kind of escapes me as to how it has any ability to act as a chain guide.

That is a factory Chain Guide. it does help support the amount of torque on the rubber dampers for the sprocket. will it run w/o it? yes, should you have it? if your trail riding and are using stock parts use it. it will help. if your racing or have an aftermarket axle, then no.

Guess I better plan on getting one. Wife's 350x is running a stock axle and I don't want to ask for any trouble.

no prob, your welcome, but I hope you can find it and not have to go that route, however the salvage yards were very good to me when I was building a few 1974 motocross bikes for myself so i could race in the ahrma vintage races . . I found a nice dg swing arm for my 1974 125 elsinore for a whopping $20.00, and a few sets of cerriani and marzocchi forks dirt cheap, but the grand prize was an all original, 95% complete 1974 adolph weil 450 maico that I only paid $100 for . . if you had $10,000.00, you probably couldn’t buy one much less even find one . . it was missing the engine so I bought a nice all orig 1974 450 maico and put that engine in it after rebuilding and modifying it a little . . I was fortunate enough to win the ahrma western region open expert motocross class with it the first season I raced it . . that was the only maico I had ever ridden and I could instantly tell why they won so many races . . the thing cornered like a ferrari, lol.
