So I know this has been asked before but I am looking for some technical data someone may have for what the stock top speed was. Also what the recommended rider weight was for it. The reason being is I am fighting a speeding ticket. Officer says I was doing 55 when I came out of a parking lit onto the road, which I know I was only in third gear at that point. This is on my street legal Z so that isn't an issue but he then claims his rear radar clocked me doing 63+ when I was going up a 2% grade and fighting 20 MPH wind along with a set of trail pros on the rear. I myself am about 225lbs so I am sure that wasn't recommended rider weight but I will need the facts to back it up any and all help is appreciated. I know why he originally pulled me over it was because he saw a trike on the road and couldn't believe that was legal. The county attorney's office already offered me a deal that if I paid 50$ to the victim impact fund they would make the ticket go away. Even with as much as I am tempted I know his radar was wrong. I have heard that the AC lighting emitted a confusing RF signal to the radar and causes it to be more like a tachometer than a speedometer. So we'll see what happens.

im not too familiar with the Z cuz what i do know is web info and video testing. if what you say i true i do believe you should have been at most 40 mph topping the gear since both yu and the bike are 500+lbs going up a slope and heavy wind opposition. i cant believe yu were clocked at 63mph though. maybe he had it in kph since 63kph=39.1464mph it would prove the theory. but i dont think this could be proved in court. if i remeber correctly riber weight optimal should be 165 to 180 and for top speed ive seen many claims on 65+mph and ussually higher with modded bikes. hope it helps.

From what ive seen your lucky you didn't get shot.
63mph is a bit of a p155 take but proving against police is difficult.
Personally I would pay and forget, or next time.......

A hundred people could post on here that the trike only goes 40mph on here and it still won't help you. The only way to get it tossed is to get a certified shop to test the speedo calibration or run the trike wide open on the machine. Don't have a speedo? You're screwed. Take the deal they offered and start smiling and waving at every cop you see till you get a rep as a nice guy. Good luck.

I agree with el on this one. Pay the $50 and you may never get hassled again. Fight it tooth and nail and you may win, but then what. They will target you every time that you leave your house and that you do not want. You have to choose your battles wisely. Although frustrating, let this one ride.

Have a smart phone?? Get yourself a free GPS speedometer app!
You can check your speed in each gear and most will record top speed reached.
Even with that, unless you have a judge or DA that is reasonable, hears you out, and is open to being shown proof with the GPS speedo, you are probably better off paying the 50 bucks. But if you suspect you may be targeted because you are on a trike, then this may be far from the last incident you have.
Either case, I would get a GPS speedo app and do some testing and speak to the DA again letting him know your results.
