View Full Version : Wheel Spacers??

So, I'm needing to put some wheel spacers on the rear of my 250sx so that I'm able to use all the Honda 4 wheeler tires I have. I guess that the normal wheels from my quads won't fit over the rear brake drum. I wanted to do this anyhow, so its no big deal, but here is my question. When looking for spacers, I found 2 basic types. The first which is much cheaper, is basically just a bolt extender. It just has individual bolts that fit over the others, and makes them longer. I can get a set for like 25-30 bucks shipped. My question, is will these work / be strong enough? I've not found any negative reviews on them, but wanted some feedback. Thanks.

Also I'm looking at 2'' spacers. 2'' per side, total of 4 inches. Will this give me any handling issues?

i've run them for several years and no problems.
To answer your other post, for me wide is better.
I'm not sure about the type you're talking about, but on the disc type spacers with the studs pressed in them, i had to turn down the outer part of the spacer to fit the inside of an aluminium 8" wheel.

These are the two types I'm speaking of.

I bet my problem will be the same as 81k was stating with the first though. Thats my problem now it seems also. My brake drum rubs on the inside of the wheel when I tried to mount it. Seems the only way outside of buying new wheels and tires might be getting the the individual spacers.
@RapidRick The ones you use are the individual ones correct?

Last question is, the ones that I'm looking at state that they are for the 400ex / 300 ex etc. These should be the same bolt style as my 250sx correct?

Yes they will fit. I've been running them for years and I race TT and I double them up and they work great never any issues.

I have 0 experience with either set, but am also looking to possibly run some on my sx. That said, I read a thread somewhere talking about the ones on the right snapping off. To me it makes sense, that it could happen. The ones on the left look much stronger to me.

Well, I'm now curious as to if they are going to have to be shaved down to fit inside a 9 inch wheel though.

I've heard the same. I would get the ones on the left.

Both types will fit inside your wheel just fine. I own 3 running 250sx, and two of them have the style on the left and one has the style on the right. I ride in really rocky tough areas. And the stud extenders have worked great.

"Our wheel spacers are CNC machined to exact specification from AISI 1045 steel with a 180,000 PSI tensile strength." from the ebay ad.
IMHO, I don't think I could apply this much tension to cause a failure. For me it was a cost benefit thing. Like I said, IMHO.
BTW, that's 20% more than a grade 8 and equal to a cap screw. Just sayin. Works for me.

I found a used set of the full hub type that are grooved on the outside for cheap last night. I bought those which were 1.5'' and bought some 2'' stud type also. I'll update later this week when they come in.

I agree. The longer they are the more tension will be put on them too. I ordered both types to try, and because I could use the other on a quad. I'll let everyone know
