Looking for a carb for want will be a fresh engine, totally stock.
So what is the modern day comparable 34mm mikuni carb?
What would be the best upgrade for performance while still not modifying the engine.
Would a 38mm flat slide be too large for a stock motor?
all the 34mm carbs that I have seen have the choke lever on the wrong side.

I ran and run both 38mm flat Mikuni and Keihin PWK on that 86 KX/KXT.

I just read read that the Mikuni is a better carb because it has more jet passages and is harder to tune but when it is tuned proper it performs the best. Keihin has a simple design and is easy to tune AND the once the needle seat goes bad the Keihin is junk. Not so on Mikuni, you can replace most of the carb parts.

I just always hated the Mikuni needle valve leak that happened to me on all of them, I never had trouble jetting them, but that leak- aaarrrgh !!!!

According to flow charts a 36mm Keihin flows as much as the 38mm. I would not go over 38 in size.

I ran a 34mm Mikuni on a PTR high rev piped and moderately ported jug 250cc that was supposed to have a 38mm on it stock, it still ran good. Not sure what I would have gained at 38mm. It sucked gas like crazy.

oh and yeah the gas inlet and chokes will probably be all backwards for the T3 on Mikunis

I run a Keihin 36. I switched from Mikunis. I like the Keihins more.

Did you run it out of the box or make adjustment?
