What is the bare minimum I need to test run a engine. Im guessing just a coil, cdi and pickup coil on engine? Im talking no kill switch or anything. Want to eliminate any possible problems that may be in wiring harness and just run the engine. Is there a schematic of this somewhere? I know this is a pretty basic question, and Im just trying to learn.

Depends on which machine but any wires running from the engine need to be run to their components. Take a 200s motor, it's pretty basic. If the engine is together, Really all that you need is a toggle switch, cdi, coil, and ground.

Now don't go tearing apart your wiring harness based on this, but this is the bare minimum you need to run the motor. Handlebar controls, ignition switch and battery system are all out of the loop. This was based on the 84 200M schematic in the service manual.

Connect the black and green at the neck to turn the motor off. Disconnect to let run.

Oh yea, service manuals are located here: http://www.kb0nly.info/ATC/index.php
