This pic is me on the Tecate 200 and my teammate on the Honda 200 at Ohio 1985. Glenn aborted mid air on the famous Double jump at that race. He was not the only one to screw that jump up. I cased it in my heat and hit so hard it jarred my ancestors ankles. 214288

Nice!
Did you race the Batavia, NY race in 85?
There was a set of doubles at that race the scared the ** out of me.
Never did do it!
The second jumps were almost straight up and down, if you didnt make it you were going to get hurt!

Talk us through the action in the pic. I can't figure out what happened there.

This was practice and I (on the Tecate) did single, single still trying to grow some balls and Glenn just pinned it and bailed mid air. By the looks of it he either flew nose high or just kicked it away. Anyway he wasn't hurt (because he was 16 or 17) and he didn't land on me either. I think Sparks crashed or almost did. Maybe Mickey will comment about it.

So you're on the downside of the first jump, and Glenn got out of shape from the first jump, with the second jump still in both of your futures. Now I understand. Thanks for the breakdown.

No this is the 2nd jump. It is about 6 foot tall and pretty steep on both sides. You had to run out to land so your timing was very important. Plus it was like 50 foot between them, 3rd gear way high in the RPM. the first one looked about the same. Track building got better over the years. The fenders on the tecate are Cammex Honda Low Profile versions. After this race we put an aluminum tank on.

Yes the 86 track was tame compared to 85 . Looks like good racing though.

Wow, great video.
I think the tracks were going more flat track and less motocross.

At some point they had two separate series. A TT series and a MX series where you competed for a "National Championship". If you competed in both you combined points for the "Grand National Champion".
