Starting messing with the Z that I picked up in September. Got around to getting a new shift shaft bought. When I went to replace it, I noticed the broken piece, in pic 7, inside the crack case near the shift shaft area. One thing lead to another since I have to figure out what the piece goes to and would you know it, the piston, cylinder and head are done. No pin clips to be found! The spring for the stopper is broke as well. Stator is nasty as heck also. Before I tore it down, I cleaned the carb and actually got it to start up. Good thing I didn't run it.

Anyone know where the small piece is pic 7 might be from? I checked all gears and shafts and can't seem to figure it out. I was think it may be out of the hole where the push pin for the clutch goes. Not sure though after I seen a pic of a NOS case.

right on man. thank you. I figured a fresh set of eyes on it would figure it out. I even thought about removing that screw at one point but decided not to since there really wasn't a need.

Yes, it sure looks like the holder with the flat head screws.

Those don't break!! Must have had loose screws.....
