View Full Version : To Boot or Not to Boot

I put a set of aftermarket fork boots on my KLT110 about 10 years ago, and they've cracked and fallen apart. So I figured it would be better to cut them off rather than have them catch crap and trap it inside. The question is, what's the consensus on this? Is it ok to leave them off, or will my forks rust out on me? What do you guys do?

Yeah, these don't exist from OEM. There's ONE available on Ebay, but that doesn't really help me. I can't remember where I bought the aftermarket ones years ago either.

Get boots on it. Measure the diameters and get universals.

I think there's weep holes in the bottom of boots to expell moisture
when they compress. Doesn't help when they go through hot / cold cycles from sitting,
like gas tank condensation.
I have about 20 ripped boots and just oil the forks after I blow them out with compressed air.
periodically.
Lots of motorcycle forks have no boots at all so yeah, I have no idea what's right but hate rust too.

I like the no-boot look but I like to have boots on to protect the forks. Good just be a feeling since I have no data to back this up.
I bought a T3 with boots intact. One was packed with mud and had rusted the fork but this bike was truly neglected.
I have boots on my R and my X.
Cut them off and be done with it.

Ok...who's got them? I really want them to fit though. I hate saggy boots!
I said BOOTS!

I've been using shock boots I bought from 4 Wheel Parts. Not sure how they'll work on a KLT front end.
