Honda clone 200/250 starter question ( problem )

Hey guys! I just bought a new engine for my 200x. Its a honda clone 250cc OHC version.

I was trying to figure out the wiring and its almost done.

The cdi , starter switch , kill switch, light switch , pickup coil are all ok but the starter itself is the problem

See the bolt circle in red is the positive coming from the starter solenoid but yesterday i took a car battery and ground the engine then just gave a little tap on the bolt with the positive. It was suposed to crank right? But instead it make spark so i took a multimeter and find out that the bolt was grounded with the rest of the engine!? Am i doing something wrong ? I disasamble it and nothing looked wrong to me. There is a little insulator on the botton of the bolt and its not touching the body .

Did the multimeter read 0 ohms or was it just a low number? The starter is basically a really long wire wrapped up inside there, but the distance of copper creates resistance. I don't know what a start should read for ohms, but I'd suspect around 50-400ohms.

Does the motor spin freely by hand?

post a photo of the rest of the starter. I think the positive may be a small slot that sticks out on the starter at another place.
how were the cables connected? connect it all back up and see how it goes.

I was right the metal casing and the positive bolt were touching on the inside. The ohm reading was like 0.1-0.2 ohm between the casing and the bolt. I went at the store i bought the engine. And the guys said it should work fine "because its new" i said ok i want to see it working! He took a battery and a screw driver and as soon as he touch the bolt. BAM spark everywhere i think he almost s*** in his pants lol. Then he gave me a new starter that he test in front of me ! Everything is ok now !

congrats on convincing the person to replace the starter :). Today's word the old staying "the customer is always right" isn't what stores go by, I heard the saying is now "the customer is the customer" meaning the customer can be wrong and not to go out of your way to satisfy their needs.

What does one of those motors cost? The 250 engine

^ typically $550-$850 depending on what type, size and style form my experiences for the good stuff that is.

Are the Apollo bike motors any good?

Engine was 550$ and i bought a cdi and ignition coil for 30$. And from what i heard those are pretty good and can take alot of abuse. And its not an apollo its more of a loncin/lifan engine
