I haven't really done much with this project the last couple years but this year I was determined to get it finished. Just got my parts back from the powdercoaters today and will start assembling tomorrow, probably won't get to far this weekend but our first dune trip is only a couple weeks away and I'm hoping to have it ready by then. Moter is a 310 with pretty heavy port work and will be running a PVL ignition, 40mm Lectron carb and stock pipe (for now) with DG silencer. Still want to get a new Clark tank for it later but for now I have one that will work and a tank cover if I can't stand to look at it. I have a new set of front and rear OEM fenders but will be using a green 250r front fender and a used set of rears that will get trimmed some, also have a set of the hornet powersports tank shrouds. It has an extended stock swingarm now but a buddy is going to build me a new Honda style carrier swingarm for it later. I am using a JJ&A aluminum play axle modified to fit with Honda bolt pattern hubs. Tires are 22x11x8 8 paddle haulers on back and a 21x7x10 Mohawk front. Since the PVL ignition has no lighting sorce I have a set of Vision X led's with a battery pack that I will be using. I will get some more pictures as I go but for now here are the parts that just got powdercoated.

Made some progress this weekend. Got the engine in and swingarm and rear suspension linkage on. I also got the steering stem bearing races in but still need to remove the lower bearing from the stem and put the new one on before putting the front end on. Also got the bearings in the front hub and rear carrier but the powdercoater didn't block the threads in the carrier so now I have to go buy a tap to chase them.

Looking good! It's nice to see more Tecates getting built. I'm starting work on building 2 86 Tecates myself, I've been looking for different color options. Which dunes to you ride at?

So is that a Shaw shock? what length?

Yes nd4speed that is a Marvin Shaw shock, 13.5" but is adjustable to about 14.25" I think. I'm not sure how it will work with this suspension set up but figured I would try it out since I had it laying around already.

Well it’s been a few years since I started assembling this thing and I finally pulled it out of the corner and got back to it. I had a bunch of setbacks every time I thought stuff was figured out so kept getting discouraged plus I’ve been putting a lot of time into the drag bike the last few years. I haven’t actually fired it but it is together for the time being finally. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180724/13b1f6c949f111f36a469377b9b72fba.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180724/6a28ea9a33c1a853b4f7d824d98be2f8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180724/a6f44aee07c3156b88a9f34ae13537e2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180724/585b1bc9d3ce9677092e8398ef65100a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180724/59cbe5f14b844249f7b86f96a00676ad.jpg

Thanks, the axle is a JJ&A play axle from a banshee. I am using Honda wheel hubs and a raptor sprocket hub so I can use the correct size rear sprockets.

That's gorgeous. What did you have to do to get the banshee axle into the tecate carrier?

I had to make spacers for the caliper and cut the diameter down on the rotor because it was hitting the pins for the pads. The sprocket side is pretty close to being lined up but will see when I start riding if I need to adjust the spacing of it a little. My swing arm is a little beat up and doesn’t seem quite square and I’m not sure if that actually helped things line up better or made it worse lol.

The axle is called a "play axle" Are those axles made for duning? I've never heard the term hefore. Very interesting conversion. It would be cool to see a picture of that axle end where the hub slides on.
Looks like a snapring at the end. I was wondering about the billet fuel cap and the thumb throttle too if you get a chance.
Looks like real fun ahead for you!

Thanks. Yes it’s called their play axle made for duning, it’s a 40mm solid aluminum axle 34” wide and they hold up very well. The hubs are all keyed and clamped on, here’s a couple pictures.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180804/b60ae5245f8147dd2a6502935a71f426.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180804/58c620f39b08bd04770475ec34be5a7c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180804/3930fb612d6c95d2275a6f0ad2d0699e.jpg
The snap ring just keeps the hub from sliding off the end in case. The throttle is a Honda one with an aftermarket top, gas cap and throttle cover are from a machine shop I used to work at. We made a bunch of atv parts including some Tecate parts for a few years but they have stopped doing that now.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180804/99021e35d7e4be0bcf56e7c503ae9d5f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180804/10bd42efd8379063ad64ffbe0210badc.jpg

Finally got out today and messed with the Tecate some. Had to pull one of the 70’s out also and give it a pull start. After the 3rd try it fired up and not it starts every 1st or 2nd kick usually. I’m not really sure why it didn’t want to run before, maybe it just needed a little lesson from a Honda on how to run lol.
