Hey 3ww,
I'm wondering how/or who is the best way for refinishing all the hardware for my 85' 200X build. Any help out there?
Thanks,
"D"
Clean off the corrosion and have it all replated with the oem style zinc coating. Find a plating shop near you.

If it isn't too bad careful blast with glass bead will usually shine it up good but you have to be sure not to go too deep

Have it zinc plated. It's pretty cheap and it can turn out really nice.

Will the zinc plating mess with the splines on the axle at all? Like a tighter fit or anything?

Depends is your restoring or not. When I redo a bike I want to keep but ride the heck out of I wire wheel the hardware then coat with enamel paint and cure in the oven a few mins. It holds up very good, I normally black out bolts since I ride in coal and everything gets black anyway after a ride.
Zinc will not affect the axle splines. Chrome will though.

How does chrome work on say a swingarm bolt? What about torking bolts with chrome plating, how does the chrome seem to last on the bolts. Heard maybe some problems in the long run?
I've never used chrome hardware, but have heard it can be brittle.
