how in the hell do you remove the sx engine this is driving me nuts never had this much trouble with an engine extraction.
a floor jack would probably help but i dont have it only an atv lift.
im using a scissors jack and have jacked this thing in every concievable way and no luck the u joint isint a problem its disconned.
I cant get the front up high enough theres not enough clearance, jacked the rear up no luck jacked the left side up still no luck. I will never guess how they did it in the book (HONDA serv. man.) HELP :?

if the sx is anything like the es ( and i suspect it is ) it's a real tight fit !
i had to remove the valve cover cap on the front to clear. and it's also very heavy as you already know.
i used a couple of crow bars to get it rocked into lifting out mode
( more like rolling it out mode but you gotta lift up slightly )
get the top of the engine pointed out to the left hand grip and lift up and out.
if you think your having fun now ,,, wait till you go to put it in !
yeah, only difference in the es/sx motors is the tranny gearing ,,,

good luck DIGGER DOG ,,, john

Woo Hooo success !
It was pretty simple actually, put jack under back of motor, jacked it up as far as I could, then lifted front of motor up and to the right ,a little jiggle and it practicly fell out.
we will see how fun it is to put back in

:-D well the book says for the 86 250SX right side it may well be the left for the ES as it is different I dont know how different, but it did take about an hour and a half of aggrevation then about 20 mins of being really pissed after that I gave up and put up a post
then I cooled out for about 3 hours then after about 10 mins and me being mellowed out it was smooth sailing. But I did go by the book on it .
If the book says left definately go left I generally go by the book on every thing but im sure in some instances the book could be wrong is the ES shaft ? one thing I know Im never doing an SX again its a fun trike and all but I cant wait till I do the 350X I dismantled it and the motor came out easy 200X too no more utility trikes or shaft drive what a biotch.

Most people decide to remove the countershaft - where the final drive comes out - It slides out with 3 bolts but THEN first gear has a thrust washer that falls down and unless you can mentally convince that washer to get back up there you are screwed.

It is a VERY tight fit and can go in either way but inserting the right side of the motor into the left side of the frame works best for me. I set it in there close and then stand strattled above the frame and lift it the whole 1/2 inch they give you and it usually falls in by itself.

Try doing it after you paint the frame!! It's heartbreaking to watch the paint scratch off :(

yea dirtcrasher Im gonna hate putting it back in after every things been painted, actually I pushed the U joint back and to the side,I did however think about taking the counter shaft out but then I started pushing on the U joint and did it that way,Im glad its over ,now Ive just got to come up with $$$$ for gas Tank, fenders,Im looking for another SX front end too,
I like the 200X front but I dont want it to be doin whellies on the wife.

well i feel like a real dummy ! i got the manual out this morning and re-read the removal info. what WAS i thinking. anyways,,, it will come out the left side too. by the sounds of it it is still a pain in the butt taking it out the correct side.
i did think about taking the counter shaft drive thing off at one point.
sure glad i didn't from what Dirtcrasher is saying.

DIGGER DOG ,,, i need to call on a sx that's been sitting in the weeds for along time. kinda been putting it off till i get this 250r project under control. i'll p.m. you what i find out about it ( later tonight ). i want other parts and not the front end.

Cool John ,It is a pain I think either way like I said Ill probably never do another utility trike I dont know though I would like to have a BIG RED.
Cool on that SX front end Im waiting on whiteman350x for an SX front I told him Id trade him a 250R front for it it was on my 350X rat trike.
But if the one your talking about is in better condition Ill probably pick that up as well Ill be needeing the trees too because the ones I have had a front rack welded on them sombody welded a hitch on the rear end too
