started my trike up today and it started like up after 8 or so kicks as usual, but since last summer while walking it, roughly sat it on back rear rack. since then it has had little to no power and will die if throttle is pushed beyond a high idle. also needing the choke fully on to keep from stalling at all times. will die if i try to move drive it unless choke is fully on and held, but and still will sputter and bog randomly. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Take off the carb. and disassemble and let it soak in carb. cleaner over night and then wash it off and blow through all the passages with compressed air and reassemble. Also check the screen on the bottom of the fuel shut off valve on the tank to make sure its clean.

Also check the air vent on the gas cap. and the fuel line it's self. when you go in the carb, if there's a lot of crud, I'd put a extra fuel filter in the fuel line.

Sounds crazy, but make sure the crankcase isn't full of gas. I had a bike that exhibited the same symptoms, and I discovered that a leaking needle and seat in one of the carbs... completely filled the lower end of the bike with gas. After cleaning the carbs and changing the oil (x2), the bike ran great.

Thanks for the help, i will look at my carb when i'm home. The thing is ive brought it to the mechanic for this kind of problem before. And he has cleaned the carb many times, also new carb kit. Not counting the time i cleaned it. Also have a fuel filter so i would of thought the crud would stop taking it out of service every couple months, so frustrating.

Pull the tank, dump it out, and rinse it with fresh gas a couple times. You don't need to fill it to rinse it, just enough to slosh around nicely. You'll never get all of the crap out
of the tank by draining it thru the petcock. In the future, make sure your gas cap is clean before you take it off, that you don't have mud and/or loose dirt on your hands or gloves, and if you are filling from a gas can that the top of the gas can doesn't have a bunch of dust and dirt on it. ;)
ETA: Draining/rinsing the tank will also get rid of any condensation in the tank.

All fuel filters are not the same. It needs to be NO coarser than 30 microns. AND--always drain the carb if its going to sit for over 24 hrs

Something I do...
On a cold morning always turn the fuel on and leave for a few seconds before opening the tank breather. The pressure difference causes the tank to balance initially by sucking air back through the fuel line (you'll hear a bubbling sound) and that will clear the tank's pencil filter of anything collected the previous day. It's not a substitute for a clean tank but I feel it's a good practice.

That's ridiculous. What purpose does that serve? I shut my petcock off but draining the carb everytime?? I don't know anybody that rides their 3 wheeler, ATV, dirt bike, street bike, moped, whatever everyday. Well maybe a street bike or moped for work or school, but.........

One world different worlds I guess, just about everyone I know runs their 4 wheelers every day. Checking cattle , water, poisoning prairie dogs, etc. ATVs that go to work everyday. Now for these old novelty 3 wheelers that are not used much anymore, draining the carbs keeps the varnish from setting up. Any small engine actually. That's a common practice for those that know, drain the carburetor (and tank in the off-season). The situation is magnified with old dirty fuel tanks, fuel pumps, carburetors, and ethanol. Keeps the very fine dust from setting up on the jets so bad.experience I guess. Don't squat with your spurs on.

I never drain anything. Just don't let it sit, run it man. Get it running right and keep it running right. Keep the tank full of non ethanol petroleum. Start it and let it idle, or take it around the block. Gotta run it.
