I hope this doesn't come off as too much of a man-crush, but just wanted to convey my thanks to an OUTSTANDING member of this community. After weeks of posting about my various problems w my R, yaegerb reached out to me with some very good advise...and I actually took it this time!

He nudged me to ditch that crappy old stock Keihin and go with something new and easy to tune. I got the Airstriker on and it fit the bill perfectly.

Next, he convinced me to pull the jug to figure out why my compression was so low. He was right...I had all kinds of top-end issues. I took it all to a machine shop where they bored it 1.0 over and I got a piston kit from Wiseco. They resurfaced the top of the jug and the head...that's when they found one of my head studs was loose. Gee...could that be why there was so much liquid gasket in that area?

Anyway, I got it all back together and finally started my break-in this morning. Yaegerb has been within text range during the entire process...and there have been a LOT of texts! I am a complete noob at the majority of this, but with his coaching...I actually have a really good runner!

This week is Spring Break for my kids and today has been my deadline for completion since I purchased the bike on Jan 1. Now I can take my new trike on our week of quad (now quad/trike) riding adventure! I'm stoked!!!

I absolutely love this site and am so thankful to ALL of the members that have giving me such good advice. THANK YOU ! :beer

What kind of airstriker carb did you get, was it for a stock 85R?

I took the advice of the site veterans and went with the 38mm Keihin Airstriker. I just got back from 3 days of riding and it was flawless. My bike is bone-stock otherwise. I got mine from Eddie Sanders Racing in one day (severe time crunch) after giving up on another supplier. I had been waiting three weeks and no delivery in sight.

I did have to stretch the air box tube and the insulator to fit (which produced a few F-bombs) but wasn't too bad. After that... just swapped out the cables and did a minor jetting change and was in business. Of course I had yaegerb on speed dial for that too.
