taking apart my 200x forks today and when i got them off it was clear that the steering stem was angled forward compared to the forks. the forks appear to be straight which has got me wondering if this is just how the stems came. anybody know?

Sure does look like the rake is built in there. It's easier than boring 2 fork holes on an angle.....

It may be 350x front end. Check the OD of the fork tubes. If they are 33mm they it is a 200x front. 350x is either 35 or 38mm.

I thought the 200x had rake built into the stem and the 350x didn't.

Anybody else ever have their forks apart?

I have 2 sets currently on my trikes but have never really focused on the rake. What hippyplz said sounds right though. 200x has straight fork mounts with rake in the stem. 350x has just the opposite, with larger diameter forks.

I believe the 200x have the rake built-in the triple clamps with the steering stem at a angle. I know thats how the 83-84 250r triple clamps are made.

Yes, there is rake built in to the 200X triple clamp. That's normal, your clamp isn't damaged. My Tri-Z has raked clamps as well. Raked triples seem to be more common among three wheelers than on bikes.
