.
it depends on what type of track you will be running them on . . the link below shows several different brands . . the hoosiers are xlnt but a bit overkill for your app.

We run standard 3 bolt american cart pattern. They vary in 5 or 6 inch diameter and have many different widths. You will need to have a set of stock hubs turned down to fit inside rims and drill and tap holes. Kart wheels all over ebay, just make sure the bolt pattern is correct.

Here is a site I buy wheels from.

Here is another 150cc electric start flat tracker in the works as we speak

Yep we were just talking about that last night. That sure surprised a lot of people on how fast they are, Rex's fastest lap time was 2 seconds off the fastest quad lol that really made them think then

Anyone have pics of the turned down/ modded hubs? Any of you Mad 70's guys still out there?

There might be pics of the turned down hubs in the mad 70's thread. We haven't been racing them as much as we did every body got older and life happend

I looked through 50+ pages. Most of the photos got swallowed by photo bucket. If there were pics, they might be gone.

Hey bean eater, do you have a set of 70 hubs you can send me? I've got lazer cut flanges that I used to build my kart hubs with. I can try and turn your hubs down and use my flanges to drill the bolt pattern.

249576 this is the only pic I have right now of one of the hubs I cut down. It's for a aircooled R project

Here’s one with too many holes drilled and tapped. Make sure it’s centered. Some of you might recognize the red bike in the background. It’s a long way from home.

Awesome, thank you. The flanges I have are dead on and will work perfectly for transferring over the bolt pattern.

blm would you post up a pic of the transfer plate used to locate the new drill/tape holes. Also what's the bolt circle diameter and the OD diameter of the turned down 70 hubs? I'ved seen several go kart wheels/tires at our local swap meets recently and thought about how to mount them.

What I did to drill an American kart pattern on a Honda hub was to turn a shoulder on the hub that fit in the center bore of a 5x2 wheel half from a modern quarter midget, and used a large bolt and washer to hold the whole assembly down in my drill press. I then used a good 1/8th drill bit (not a cheap one that bends, found that out the hard way) and an adapter that fit in the 5/16 bolt hole in the wheel with a 1/8 centered bore, then stepped up to an appropriate sized bit for 5/16-24 (escapes me at the moment). I threw a bolt in the holes to prevent the rim from rotating, turned the hub and rim half and reapeated for the other two holes.
It spins true on my lathe and looks pretty good with 12x9.00-6:naughty:

Nice job toast. Those look really nice. Hairy, the od is 3.5 and the bolt pattern is the American kart 3x2.5. I turned a shoulder just like toast did to center the ring and used a center punch to mark the holes. I'm drilling and tapping these for 8mm 1.25 studs/bolts. I don't like the 1/4 kart bolts and actually broke one racing my 250r, so I drilled them out to 5/16-20 and never had a problem after that. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/5b8d8af9cd1457c2214b8906454b607c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/46e0406ea634f36c7a6f6a178eb42b80.jpg

Any recommendations for wheels and tires? I don't know a damn thing about modern Kart stuff, other than there seem to be endless options. I want to get out fairly cheap, and its just gonna be a mess around rig. Going on a 150 Piranha powered 5 speed 70.

All of em'. Probably mostly hard packed dirt trail with some light sand. There is a small small little loop at a spot near the power lines i'm hoping is gonna be fun. Other than that, grass and pavement. I'm looking to spin them. I was looking at those hoosiers on eBay. Seem to be very very reasonable wheel/tire packages. Should I look for anything other than the 3x2.5 pattern? Width? Offset? Height? I was thinking 5" or 6". I don't really know. I'm open to suggestion.

I ran a 6 inch wheels. 12 inch tire on the right, and 11 inch on the left. I forget how wide the wheels were? Really if your not racing, I'd just get 6 inch wheels in America pattern and the treaded hoosiers.

You ran those wide tires on the 250r though, right? Not on a little guy? My main goal is to try and keep the front down so i can steer this thing.

They also make a dirt slick. Those treaded tire gotta lot of bite.

The dirt slicks will hook up too on the right track or in a wet yard and throw you off too!

bkm thanks for the info. Instead of using '70 hubs I've got several pairs of cast steel '90/110 hubs and think there a thicker flange and give additional thread engagement.

The eBay trigger finger is getting itchy. Anyone have any thoughts? I think i'm gonna go with slicks. Width and height are my main questions now.

Hopefully someone who has messed with the kart tires on a 70 will chime in on what they ran. I'm no help on a 70.

It all depends on what you want to do with it as for size tires and wheel width
