My 1983 Honda 200 headlight is not to bright. Its dim and yellowish looking...even at high rpms
Is the bulb or a wiring or ground issue ? What should I check ?
Thanks

Yes all of the above. Personally I would get a good led light and mount it in your old ones place. Brighter and better unless you want to keep the original look. Rebuilding a 185s right now and I am going to update all lighting to led.

Is there a coil for the head and tail lights ?
What runs the juice for them ?
I have unpluged and cleaned all the connections I could find...its a little better but not much.
Could you share what kind of LED lights your going to use for the updated lights ?

Lighting coil is located behind the flywheel . its the larger of the two .

Could the lighting coil be weak or going bad and that is causing the dim lights ?

I haven't taken it apart yet so I haven't seen It. I have a idea what it looks like but not positive. I see some Ignition coils but not Lighting coils...... Could you post a photo of one so I know what I'm looking for ?
I'd like to have one in hand before I take things apart .
Thanks

You will need a flywheel puller and the new coil gets soldered in .

does it still have a high low switch?
what happens on high or low?
is the tail lite bulb working?
if the tail lite bulb is working you can remove it and see if your lites get brighter
if you have at least 12 volts you could try a halogen lite around 30w . . they might be around 7.00 . . the led ones might be around 20.00.
i think the head lite bulb is 25/25w and the tail lite bulb is 5w . . i would check and post what they are.
you may have a yellow wire coming off the stator . . if so you can unplug it while it is running and check the voltage at idle and around 2000 rpm.

Yes
what happens on high or low?
It switches the beam of the light angle...but the light is still dim and yellowish looking. The brightness doesn't change.
is the tail lite bulb working?
Yes...it works
I will check those other things....
Thanks

I checked the head light 45/45w
the tail light bulb has no watts marked on it.....its a wagner bulb 17635 which looks like its a 26.88 watt bulb ??
So I took the tail light bulb out and the head light was BRIGHTER that ever.....
Wrong bulb in the tail light ??
I went to the local shop and got a small bulb. Works fine now.
Is there a danger running with no tail light bulb...as far as the electrical system and the voltage running to the headlight bulb ?

If you search with the string "wagner+17635+watts" at Google or similar, you will find that your tailight bulb is rated at 26 watts and was overwhelming the headlight bulb. Good thing that you did not spend all that money on a lighting coil and flywheel puller (and another flywheel key, after you mess up the first one).

Does anyone know what the correct tail light bulb # is, my 83 200 headlight is kinda dim also had it out in the snow yesterday so long it got dark and the snow was a bit yellow lookin. Maybe I can get an easy cheap fix too.
Watch out where the huskies go and don`t you eat that yellow snow. RIP Mr Zappa.

remove your tail bulb . . if there is no improvement it is not the problem . . if there is an improvement than run a lower watt bulb . . also look at your frint one . . if it is 25 you can try a brighter one if you have 12 volts at the yellow wire on the alt..

yes, wrong tail lite bulb, i told you your tail lite bulb should be 5 watts and the head lite should be 25 but to try a higher watt one.

I`ll try and remove the bulb and see what happens just to verify if that's the problem good advice thanks. I don`t use the headlight much at all but I like to have everything workin correctly just the same.
