is there a recommended/preferred shop to send our cylinders to for boring?

Im rebuilding a 200x i just picked up for 200 bucks and i want to punch out the cylinder to 65.5mm

I have a guy that used to build my dirtbike/mx motors for me...but i dont know if theres a honda atc guy everyone here knows and trusts?

If there's a local Honda Atv dealer nearby they should be able to do it there, bring your piston with your cylinder so they can bore it out to the Pistons specs

I use a guy out in Colorado. He grew up here in oregon with me, extremely talented, honest, and nobody in the world I trust more. He proudly runs an automotive machine shop and is actually trying to get away from doing powersports stuff... but I am sure he would do 4 stroke. I send all my stuff there from oregon, and I just wish it wasn't so costly to ship my v8's to him.

Anyone who can properly do dirtbikes can also do trikes...

If you have a guy that you have used with any small engine in the past and were satisfied with his work than I would keep using him rather than a stranger regardless of online opinions. No offense guys.

Where are you located. There's a local cycle shop here that does great work. The owner used to race back in the day.

If for some reason you don't move on Mickey's offer.... Any reputable machine shop in your area that is worth it's salt and does this kind of work should do fine. Boring cylinders on a SBC is technically no different than boring a cylinder on a 200x. You just need to provide them with the new piston and specs so they can do it right.

2-stroke cylinders require a little more know-how.. but that's mainly just making sure the port windows are adequately chamfered so they don't catch a ring...

I sent my 200s cylinder to G&H (http://www.ghdiscountatvsupply.com/servlet/StoreFront) to have it bored out (Trike didn't run when I first bought it). They were friendly and knowledgeable. I also ordered the replacement piston/rings and timing chain from them as well. I'd use them again.

But like another person said, if you already have a local person you know and trust, I'd use them again. Nothing particularly unique about these ATC's to worry about IMO.

I can do your head or I have one here With new Big valves in it I can trade out for your good head and $80 more. If you do this make sure you send the head/cam cover, they have to match.

stock cam right now... unless i can find an xr200 cam?

or.. you have another idea?? :-)

I already got a 30mm carb/intake going on this motor and i dont mind running some sort of VP fuel if i had to because of psi and/or timing ..

You can run pump gas with the piston I cut down to 11.5:1. If you are not going a cam you don't need valve spring, and my rule of thumb is if the cam you pick (xr200) doesn't need springs it isn't worth putting in. The cam is where all the HP is, the HC piston is only going to give you a little more torque.

If anyone is in Minnesota around the twin cities Dana's Auto Machine Services in Shakopee did mine. He had it back to me in a few hours and its cost 40 bucks.

ok, i think you convinced me.

lets leave the head as-is and i'll try and find an xr200 cam to put in there.

these mods should be enough to give all my friends' 200x's a good beating (2 of which were once mine and all motors are bone stock).

i'll gear it down a touch too for a little more snap off the bottom end. yeah.. i think thatll work.
