My :cough:cough: DG pipe broke & Im trying to save it - (Even tho its sucks - I'm pretty broke)....Anyway, the upper mounting tab/bracket broke off completely right at the pipe- so I developed a big leak! Ive grinded it with the dremmel real lightly to remove the plating around the crack & to prep surface. The broken off tab/bracket lays back in its HOLE neatly with a minor gap (on the crack)....
So Im wondering what type of welder SHOULD or CAN be used? (OXY/ACET.?/STICK WELDER/WIRE WELDER)?
What type of rod/stick/wire to use etc?
I know the pipes are thin too-so its tricky. It will probably give out again but would like to get by for now. Thanks
Wire feed will be your best bet with low amps, not sure on wire as all I know and have is stick. If you have a stick I would go with a 3/32" 6013 rod on about as low amps as you can handle. If your pipe is as thin as you say it is, low heat and move fast. Don't let your puddle pile up or you'll burn through. Be sure to tack your bracket on with at least 3 small tack welds. Then make small welds around your gap, don't try to do it all in one weld or it will get too hot and burn through.
My apologies if you know all this already, simply offering my advice from experience. Not saying my way is right, but what I have experience with.

I would braze it. Or maybe oxy/ace weld, or tig. Mig would be my last choice of methods. Use whatever you are comfortable with or hire it done. If if turns out shotty or you melt a big hole you'll be wishing you spent a few bucks.

Brazing does seem like the best choice to me? -but I dont really know much about welding. And Im not doing the repair myself & but I welcome all tips/recommendations.

Tig it Then reinforce the bracket.
I would do it for you if I was not a country away from you. LOL

Funny you mention to reinforce the bracket. The bracket comes welded on -but only along one side which is why it gave out (it let it flex back n forth). They didnt/dont welded it on the the back side of the mount too?:wondering.....
Thanks for the consideration to fix it for me anyway...Gonna have someone local do it.
Just got to decide which process to use to repair.//
