Hey guys I am restoring a tank back to OEM look.

The first tank I did I had the painter spray clear coat over the decals. It looks great.

Now I am wondering if Honda did that or not?

What about the warning decals? Did they spray clear over that too?

On my '85 350X which has the original tank...it does not look like it. Yet on other tanks I've seen online (ebay) that are NOS it does look like there is clear coat over the decals.

What about warning decals?

No clear coat over any of the decals from Honda at least on all the bikes I have had, and they all had the original paint.

I don't recall it on my original tanks either.

Personally If I were to redo any tanks I would clear over them. They won't fade as fast, where your knees rub on the tank it'll help against that, just so you don't have to redo a tank in another year.

I've seen my friends not clear over them and they regret it. Maybe it was just a bad set of decals or a cheaper set but either way.

Thanks for the advice! I always wondered about this! Anyone else?

This NOS tank looks pretty shiny but you can see a difference in the texture where the decals are...shiny but not as shiny as the rest of the tank.

I haven't seen any with clear over them. I know they started to do that on their motorcycles years later. That tank looks very nice.
