View Full Version : Flat Track/Short Track, Kart Wheel Adapter Feeler
I was wondering what the interest would be for the rear kart wheel adapters. These would be for the newer style dwt wheels with American 3x2.5 bolt pattern. I'm kinda throwing it out there to see what guys think is fair price for these and whs t the interest level is.

I decided to go with 5/16 hardware for the wheels. The kart stuff is 1/4. I'm going to install studs to make wheel installation much easier.
I could also do these in Tri-z 4/100 bolt pattern. I have a set of hubs so I can machine the back of the adapters to fit the Yamaha hubs.

I'll need a set too to even the playing field, how much are you thinking?
I'm not sure what they're worth? Material is not expensive, but they are labor intensive due to making sure they run true.

I think a 2inch left and 3inch right
I made both of mine 4". The problem you will run into is the diameter of the bike side hub will only fit so far into the bell of the kart wheels. So backspacing of the wheels have to be watched. A 3" hub might be the shortest I can make. Once things at work calm down I'll be able to examine the shortest possible length that will work with the dwt wheels. The older trophy wheels/missile kits had a larger bell size and bolt pattern, so shorter hubs could be made.

This is how I got the hubs on my first Gen Tecate axle for my kx 60. This will work for my application but I wouldn't trust a keyway for a 250 and it not nearly as wide as bkm s setup

205288 Here's a Tri z with kart axle,rotor and sprocket hub.
The Kart stuff is the Bees Knees with endless possibilities for gearing and width changes. There is a member on here that is getting a 250r setup that should be bolt on and should be around $300 minus tires and wheels. I'll let him chime in if he wants.
The adapters I'm making will allow a guy to simply bolt them on the stock hubs and run little tires, then go right back to their previous setup. No modification to oem components.
Since my bike is now a dedicated flat track bike, I will be eventually switching to the kart axle setup. For a single use bike they are the way to go.

Fasteddie has done a lot of research on kart axles. His original design was turning down a stock axle and plug welding a kart axle on it. That didn't turn out to be the best way because it still had a weak link.
Then after more searching he found bearings for the 1 1/4 axle. He had to do some machining on his carrier to make it all work. He got it to work. Look up Ashtabula race.
I have talked to him quite a bit and done some research as well. I looked at the 40mm kart axle and asked Eddie and a friend that has a kart shop in town and the wall is too thin and parts aren't as easy to get. The main part is the bearings and he figured what to use.
I have some parts odered that if it all works, I can use my bigger wheels and and change over to kart wheels just in minutes.
I am using a 450 swinger and the parts will work the same on an R.
If it works like I think it will, there should be little or no modifications.
I will post up pictures and details when I'm done.

As far as the easiest way, the hub adapters simply bolt on and take off.

Cool stuff for sure, but beyond my intentions. Honestly, I'll probably never even use what Brian is making. Iowa is pretty close to Wisconsin :beer so never say never. Given the opportunity to buy what's needed at a minimum of modification, I'm gana go with Brian's hubs. Very neat Kart parts though guys! Plenty of options and purpose intended set ups. Just over kill for a wana'be racer like me. Thinking 4" adapter hubs on each side will be best. I can adjust stagger with the axle shaft collar spacers, and simply run a West Coast hub on the right. And if for some reason I don't want stagger I'm set. Thanks B!
