Hi, I want to replace the valves on my 185s, does anyone have any tips on easy removal?, I have seen youtube footage of someone using a metal pipe with a slot cut out, and a vice grip or does that sound a little extreme?

Very simple. Take a socket roughly the diameter of the spring cap, set it on the cap and smack it with a hammer. That brief instant the spring compresses will cause the keepers to pop out. Putting the valves back in does require a valve spring compression tool.

Be sure to account for 2 keepers per valve.

I have seen the universal overhead type, would these be the ones I need?

I have always used a large C-clamp, worked every time for me.

Using the c-clamp, does that require the metal pipe?

Well, after much deliberation,I decided to go with the zero cost option, although I liked the look of a tool that was purpose made for the job, Lol,maybe I'm too much of a tight a$%, I used a piece of atc exhaust pipe cut as pictured and a clamp, worked very well.
