I have an 86 Tri-Z and after buying it i drained all fluids and fixed the exhaust leak of the motor, there was only two springs on it at the time so i ordered another one but cant seem to find where it goes, i have the bottom two put on the right ones but the top is curved around the coolant hose? i still have the tab on the head but there seems to be a hose in the way. i dont have any pictures of it but i would like to see a clear picture of your exhaust and see where your springs go, thanks!!

I had the same problem. Never did figure it out, so I made a tab and put it under the right side front cylinder nut and put the third spring there. Make use to put some silicone on the pipe flange, or snout before you fit the pipe on. Mine hasn't leaked so far, but if that becomes an issue there are guys on here that have put an o-ring onto the cylinder.

both top springs go into the tab on the cylinder. My 85 Z had the top 2 springs on it but no bottom right or the bolt on tab either so I made a bolt on tab and purchased a new spring from the dealership. Unless the 86 is different than the 85, your top 2 should make a V pattern open towards the pipe and the bottom goes down to the cylinder base like Elcami's.

This is what you should have. Some folks remove the thermostat, but I don't know why a "Y" would be involved.
