Just traded my dg 27mm carb for a mikuni 28mm flatslide carb, the flatslide carb came with a mossberger intake and no tube to connect to the carb (pic)
i used a radiator hose and it started right up and sounds mean, but the guy at napa said it wouldnt last long with fuel going thru it.
also the 28mm flatslide barely fits, i had to grind a tab out to squeeze it in and it sits cockeyed (tilted) id have to notch my frame to let it sit competely upright, anyone have experience with these carbs or where i can get a better intake?
thank you

You'll have to use a longer tube to connect the carb and the intake or it just ain't gonna fit nicely. Have fun jetting that bigass Mikuni to run right on a 200x...

Most people that ran the flat sides back in the day were notching their frames.

well whats a good carb option for a modded x then? it seems to run great with the flatslide on it, just need a different intake other than the mossberger

And you don't need to notch the frame. Just cut and add to.

meaning cut and weld? the frames powdercoated id hate to touch it but may have to....

The mossberger is the correct manifold for the 28mm flatslide BUT it does require a little massaging to get it to fit good . I remove a little off the top of the carb , right side .

Notice the small addition to the frame above the carb.

That is the picture of my 200x rdonald and that is not just a mikuni flatside that is a 30mm FCR which is a much bigger carb.

Yep. Very nice idea on the addition of the slug simple and easy. I was doing some searching around about doing a 230 conversion and this is the proper way to get a flatside in there. Not hacking it all up. Nice machine by the way.

How long have you been holding your breath to see a post that doesn't sound correct from me? Its ok to exhale now, champ.
Some real snippy little punks we have here from time to time eh? Look me up at trikefest and we can talk about my breathing face to face, champ.
Yes, I believe a 28mm carb is too big for a 200x. 192Cc of air, you can only stuff so much air and fuel in there before you are wasting it, champ.
If all is working well for you guys that know how to run them, then great.
Don't make this stuff personal folks, it's an internet forum. My technical opinion is usually spot on, and if you find yourself hoping otherwise, it's YOUR problem, not mine. Keep in mind, talkie talkie, that you might be standing next to me at trikefest someday.

Not holding my breath, just happened to see you running around with your back handed comments. Again. If you recall, I usually like your posts and side with you, you just seem to have some aggression lately.
And don't start this "find me at trikefest" crap. Get real dude, you don't know me, and you definitely ain't starting nothing at trikefest. Find yourself outside that gate real fast.
So once again, take a breather. Leave it to the people who are DOING IT, you can respect that right? Come find me and grab a beer, our crew will be there Wednesday this year. Don't bring any drama because it is not tolerated.

heres some pics of my setup, i used a radiator hose, apparently it will last only a few rides. im not sure if the length is correct, as you can see the carb sits cockeyed and spits fuel out the overflow and back of the carb, even while running, the bike seems to run great though. i havent rode it yet i want to get it to sit correctly before i do. is there any other option to radiator hose? if this carb is too big for my x im not sure what i will do, i do hillclimbs now and am just looking to hold power in 2nd gear hi range (big red motor in it) up the widowmaker here in winchester bay as it would bog with the dg 27mm a little bit
and im just jealous yall are going to trikefest!!!!!!!!!!!!204448204449

You can get a blue coloured heat proof hose at auto stores although I have run radiator hose on some 200's for years with no problems.
28mm is OK for a 200X especially if you have some engine mods.
I am a big fan of 27 and 28mm Keihin PE series. Nice a snug with no frame mods and easy to tune.

This is a good option instead of the rad hose. You can order different diameters, angles and lengths.

i liked that part about the dg carb but it had a problem that when i wheelied it would stall the motor no matter what position i adjusted the float.
can i expect any gain from this mikuni setup?

I'd highly, highly, highlyhighlyhighly suggest not saying anything of this nature again. I don't think I need to explain myself any further.

I asked several times nicely and cordially to conduct yourself with a bit more respect towards the membership. Don't think anyone has ever questioned your knowledge or contributions, just in the way they were presented which leaves a lot to be desired.
In addition, This kind of rot will not be tolerated. None of us want that kind of taint here on the board and certainly not over the event, utter bull trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro and shall not stand. I'm "too low carb" on a lot of things, but this is the kind of stuff that makes things happen in a hurry. Threatening members and insinuating you'll stir up trouble at TF over anything and certainly something as petty as this is just ridiculous. 6 month ban.

i ended up cutting the radiator hose at a 30 degree angle on the carb side, its 1 7/8 in long and the carb fit in great no cutting welding or grinding needed at all other than the parking brake cable holder. ive got to dial jetting in as it bogs right off the bottom (probably will put a smaller pilot in) other than that i think im set it runs great!!

The better hose to get is at a Truck shop. It is thicker with more strands in it and has a green or hello stripe.
I run a 32mm FCR Keihin with porting and a full race came/race gas. I can't make it run perfect thru the whole range but I haven't taken the time to do so either.
A dozen people saw that puppy run real strong this summer at the Mik6 ride.....
They sell fuel hose at napa for filler necks in car and trucks, bring your carb in and I bet they'll have the correct size.
And I like DOHC but I couldn't resist the opportunity to use this. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it

thanks, napa didnt have anything but radiator hose. i had to order a new needle valve from carbparts.com and the guy was nice enough to send me some hose with the parts free, i havent seen it yet but will check it out. Is this radiator hose going to clog my motor up or something? i works good, looks good for now. too bad they dont make a aftermarket female rubber inlet like yamahas come with for us to buy

I didn't read every post on the way down here, so sorry if this is a repeat, but I've seen rad hose run on engines before without short term issue. The ones I saw used were not the smooth rubber type you see on cars, they were the wrapped textured looking kind you see on fork-trucks and big diesels. Buy a couple feet and change it once a year, that should be a lifetime supply.

k the one i have is the smooth type, no wire inside, its super strong though, i put a big zip tie hidden around the back of the carb to help support it when it gets hot just in case

Actually, he won't see it for 6 Months. Allot of us drive ALLOT of miles to TF and we shouldn't be afraid of anything other than riding above our own abilities.....
