So, don't hate but I got a 1984 Tecate from a friend of mine. I was buying a Polaris Sportsman, and he had this behind the shed. Threw it in for no charge. It's rough. I took the carb off and it is a mess. Broke the main jet trying to get it out. I picked up a new 32mm Mikuni. But the motor side of the carb is only 40mm. The stock 32mm has a spigot of 45mm. Not sure if I should get a carb that fits better or try and figure out a way to use stock intake boot somehow. Anybody got any guidance? I've seen some of the work that jeswinehart has done. Does he make one that will work with this setup? Hope to get this ugly thing running. Then we will see about prettying up this thing.
This thing is cool. I've only owned Red up until now (as far as 3 wheelers go anyway).

If I am reading this right the carb you are wanting to install has a bigger outlet then the carb that was on it right ?
Figuring the intake boot is stock and stiff as all get out you may get away with heating it up with a hair dryer and see if you can get enough flex to stuff the carb in.
Or possibly use a dermal + grind away a small amount all around the inside to increase the inside diameter.
If you are successful and get it started, if it revs up way high on its own you most likely have a air leak somewhere around the carb boot.
If you need to make adjustments to the jets it is easiest to loosen the clamps and rotate the carb 90 degree rather then taking it on/off several times.
I don't have my parts order for the alu face plates it yet and out of intake boots at the moment so that's out. The intakes I make readily accept much larger carbs with out problems (but retain that size once stretched out)
Lets see some pictures of your SCORE ! Dose it have spark/turn over and all of that kind of stuff ???

your issue is the stock carb was 34mm. I would look for a 36mm or wrap duct tape around it until it fits. (kidding about the tape)

Yes just Ben, the spigot on the new carb is smaller than on the original. Believe me I thought about duct tape. I thought the stock '84 carb was a 32mm. Even the new 34mm carbs have a smaller spigot then the stock carb. The 36mm looks about right. Where would I start with jetting on a 36mm with a stock tecate? Some of the stuff I've read on here sounded like the 36mm was almost too big of a bore. Anyone have thoughts or experience?

Use tape to enlarge it just to see if it run.
