My bike hasn't been cranked in awhile, and the oem petcock is shot. The kawi petcock can't be rebuilt like the honda 250r very easily right? Anyway I ordered a new one off ebay, some aftermarket one but the bolt pattern won't line up. I can't drill out the holes bigger because the hole is right beside the oring gasket that seals against the tank. Does anyone know of a certain name brand or place to get one that will work? Thanks!

Raptor or banshee and a bunch of other Yamaha petcocks fit perfect unless it's a 2 nd gen with an air box. Then you have to drill out one of the unused outlets and move the hose barb.

Yeah mine is a 2nd gen with airbox...so I'd rather just find one that would bolt up and work?

If its a 2nd generation, there is certain years kx125 that is the same exact one, facing the right way for the 2ns Gen. Tecate.
Oh, and its really cheap, new. I think I got mine for like $12 from ebay. It,s been a while since I bought it, that's the reason I can't remember which years KX will fit,
but you should be able to find it easily. Find the TEACTE part number and search it. It will show up.

Wow...I see this is now a old thread. Well I am reviving it, because the issue is still not fixed. I get very little time these days, and when crap does not work right, it is frustrating. I tried to contact Gregor, and did not get a answer, and so I sent a email and got no response. I guess phone is better option? Maybe he will answer this time. I tried for a couple months to get a petcock from a guy I know that runs a atv supply house and after waiting forever he said he could not get anything that would work. So, I took nd4speed's advice, and put my reservations aside and mounted a yamaha part on my tecate HAHA. I got a brand new in the box yamaha big bear petcock. It fit perfect and bolted up just like nd4speed said it would the fitment was awesome. I did not get a chance to really test it till this last weekend. The problem is, it is a junk petcock and leaks worse than my oem one did. I mean big bears have been made for a long long time... This part was shiny and obviously factory packed and brand new, but it leaks worse than a pregnant woman in a traffic jam...this makes two petcocks now I have bought that are worthless. I bought the big bear petcock from ebay, I guess if I cannot get Gregor on the phone I will go buy another big bear petcock at a actual dealer, so that I can return it...The bottom line is, I need a NEW production petcock, if anyone knows of other options for brand new ones let me know. Thanks

Hard to tell in nd4speed's pic, but it appears that the big bear petcock may be rebuildable.

That is a good point...good eye I had not noticed that. Looks like regular phillips head screws unlike the original t3 one. Pretty sad to rebuild a brand new petcock, but if that is what it takes that may be the best answer

Thanks. Is the stock Tecate petcock riveted together? If so, I'm sure a savvy individual, such as yourself, could drill out the rivets, source the appropriate seal(s), thread the old rivet holes, then screw it all back together with the appropriate sized screws.

Yeah the stocker is not rebuildable unless you drill it. Savvy, and capable of doing it? Maybe so. I have a drill and a oring kit. Time, and the initiative to do it? Nah that isn't there hahah. As you can see it took a year to bolt the big bear one on :beer Maybe I will mail it to you with some funds hahahahahh.

Most of the people who sell new Tecate parts just use the information from threads like mine and sell you yamaha parts because they get dealer discounts. I am sorry you are having so many problems with your big bear petcock, but you should buy from a dealer if possible.

Also where exactly is the petcock leaking? Around the knob?

I had a 1984 Tecate petcock leak all over (not a new big bear one) and I took it apart and found the round rubber seal with holes in it was installed wrong.

All the Tecate petcocks can be rebuilt, but why when you can buy a new one for $12-20.

Here is a picture of a 1986 Tecate petcock:

Yeah it is leaking around the on/ off knob. When I turned it it took alot of force, and made a audible sound when it moved haha. That was not a good sign :P
I could have sworn the petcock that is on my t3 that I took off did not have screws, but maybe I am just senile, or maybe it was replaced with something else in the past. Is the round rubber seals with the holes even available for it though? I know the honda ones are...but figured they were a diff. size

I put a big bear on mine without issue, sorry you're having a hard time. Not to insult you, but make sure it's not leaking from where it seals to the tank, mine was when I first had to put it on and I had to tighten the bolts more

Or try to return it
