A few months ago I got a beat up big red for free. At first sit I thought it was an sx because it has a 200x front end. Long story short it had a bunch of problems. After hours of wrenching, heating, hammering, grinding, painting, boring, honing, lubing, greasing, and quite a bit of sweating it is finally running good and almost ready for a ride. There is still a few cosmetic issues to work out but I think the hard part is behind me. As of now this is what work was performed:
202953

.10 over bore w/ nos piston & rings
Rebuilt rear end w/ allballz bearings
Full Cobra Exhaust
Aftermarket filter w/o airbox
#135 main jet on 86sx rebuilt carb
New seat cover
86sx headlight with guard
85 350x front fender
New front wheel bearing (Allballz)

Now some thing that it still needs:

[LIST=1]
New front master cylinder (awaiting)
Rear foot brake cable (awaiting)
Paint in some areas (still haven't decided on a scheme)

For the most part I am very satisfied with the progress so far. Many of these forums have helped me through this process so let me thank the veteran trike addicts for the wonderful info. The tranny is shift a little rough and engages at idle while in gear. I'm guessing that adjusting the clutch should fix this. Your thoughts please.

Have a beer or two, that's what I did, and they look fine to me, lol. Good on you for rescuing another 250es, and please provide updates of your progress. Looks good so far!

That front end on a 250 ES is weird for me , but I would love to have that headlight guard .

I have a parts bike with an oem front that I plan on using on a future restore, but as for this 3 wheeled ball of absolute madness, Its going to eventually be somewhat of a trail ninja. It may not be much to look at, but my goal is to make it as nimble and agile in the woods as possible. I'm just gonna take what it gives me.

It'll be like my my 200m it may not look like much at first glance but she's got it where it counts. like the Millennium Falcon

I'm pretty sure once I'm done with her "she'll make the kessel run in less then 12 parsecs" That's why I love my trikes, I got them all for cheap dumped about a grand collectively in all three of them and they all are rideable. Not mint by any means but nothing I own really is. It's hard to have fun on something your scared to screw up. Trust me I operate expensive equipment for a living. I don't purposely rag my trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro but I do dance on its limits. You gotta know your ride.

Just ordered rims & tires, 26x9x12 bear claws on black itp 12x7 2+5 offsets on the rear & 25x8x11 mud lite on the '86 200x front end. I think it will look pretty clean. Will post pics when they are on the beast.

Got the claws!!! Man they look mean!!! Got some progressive springs in route to beef up the front end. Popped the side cover off last night and cleaned it out. Screen was nasty and timing chain is stretched. EBC friction plates & springs will be going back in. Palms are starting to sweat as this project is getting close to completion and the urge to ride is becoming unbearable. Any opinions on the maier fenders for this model?

Just a few pics of the progress. I'm not sure if it will ever be complete. Dealing with a thirty year old machine I find something new to fix or upgrade everyday. I believe it is coming along very well though. Next step is to replace all of the vent lines, reinstall the airbox and find a right side cover for a decent price. Thinking about some red boots for the forks as that has kind of became the theme. It is a Big Red.

Okay I went to an '85sx headlight instead of the '86. Red and black is the color scheme and 1985 is the year. Bringing it back with a modern twist. I have some 200x parts forks on the way from that year and they have the black bottoms, new black boots. I will eventually pull the motor out and hit the frame with some fresh gloss to cover up the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro brown that the PO just had to use. Also just picked up a 1st gen 250r rear shock & cylinder that looks like it will mount up. I guess we will just have to see.

The 1st gen 250r shock bolted right up but was too short and made the machine unlevel. I have a few other options I am going to try and will post results accordingly.

I like the way the black fork sliders and boots came out.

Come a long way and it's looking good. I love the Bear Klaws, I put them on my 84' ES. I'm about to start an 85' build soon and I'm thinking that I may go ahead and put the Bear Klaws on that too. Also, I like the idea of the Red boot covers. May be my choice as well.

Yeah it's hard to beat the claws. Your '84 looks like an animal. I like the camo. My real utility trike is my yamahauler. Nothing real special about it but it always starts and never leaves me stranded. It was crusty yellow at one time, but it somehow got a 1942 allied forces paint job. Now it's a soldier and never quits.
