Hello all!
I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in "Mad Scientists Lair". Please move it where need be.

Anyways, I've acquired an 85 CR250R that I have done an extreme amount of work to to get it to the condition that it is in now.

This is what has been done to it so far (no modifications, other than a custom FMF muffler)

New:
Top End (including cylinder, piston and rings, and gasket kit)
Bored 1.25 over stock (67.25mm)
Custom Welded FMF muffler
New tube in the front tire
New steel braided front brake hose line
New front brake Vesrah pads
New kickstarter and seal
New rear brake Vesrah shoes
Waterpump basically completely rebuilt (seals and patched/smoothed out any corrosion)

Issue:
Rear Tire has little tread left
Kickstarter started slipping last time I rode it

So I've always wanted to have an ATC250R and I've decided instead of selling this to purchase one two states away (there are literally none here in West Virginia) that I'm going to convert it into an ATC250R.
It doesn't really look too hard at all, but what do I know? I think it's as simple as finding a longer axle for the existing swingarm or switching the swingarms out, and probably the front forks out since the forks are too narrow for a regular sized tire.

Anyways, I've came here for suggestions and advice for this project.
-What should I do with the rear end? Are there any swingarms that would bolt right on without any fabrication work?
-Would the forks need to be replaced? What forks would be good to put on it?

Here's some pictures of it as it sits:

Bad idea. You have a pretty nice vintage MX'r there. It will go up in value in years to come. Converting it would be a huge task. Well worth waiting for/or shipping a R in from somewhere else.

If it were in a more "projecty" state I would agree that that would be a cool project. But that bike as it sits look really nice!

I don't really like dirtbikes, so that's why I am converting it.
I've been looking for an ATC250R for trade or sale for a decent price in WV for about a year now.
One of my friends actually owns one, but it's "buried" 6 feet down and will cost a whole lot more than I'm willing to put into it to fix it up. Other than his, I have never seen a 250R here. I've seen 1 350x. I own 4 of the 6 I've seen here, haha.

Will do, but I have no idea when I'll start on it lol.
I need to find interchangeable parts first and then the money to buy the interchangeable parts, haha.

That's where I'm at with my xr500 trike conversion. But my motor is still in pieces

This is what I found with a very quick search for ATC 250R's in your area. Good luck.
