Hi,
As someone who is too poor/busy/tight fisted/lazy (delete as appropriate!) to do an engine rebuild on a 250BR has anyone tried this to reduce oilly exhaust smoke? Would it mess with the clutches?

My thoughts are: there is no such thing as engine rebuild in a bottle in my experience. Says right in the product description it will not correct mechanical malfunctions. Most frequently the cause of a smoking engine is wear and tear on mechanical components.

Any oil additive that is claimed to reduce or eliminate smoky exhaust most times attempts to do this by using chemicals that can make seals swell to take up some space from wear. My guess is that it probably isn't the best thing for a clutch.

My first rebuild at 11 years old was a 230 Suzuki Quadsport. My dad wanted to save money so we put in bardahl no smoke. Needless to say, it never worked and I had the "neighborhood" mosquito fogger for a year or so. What a freakin mess when I tore into that motor. Stuff was thicker than molasses. To the OP, no that stuff won't work.

rebuild the motor, it never pays to be cheap, if not sell the bike.

Very simple,as stated. If you can't rebuild it,sell it or store it till you can. You will need a piston and ring set,a hone or possibly a bore. Any Big Red is well worth that investment.

I tried that stuff in an old car. It didn't do a darn thing.

Thanks for the quick replies.
My concerns were what it might do to the clutches and gears, and what sort of residue I might find when I do rebore it.
I think I'll put up with a bit of smoke 'till I get round to it. It's only those behind me that suffer!
