Rear wheels won't turn on this barn find 110 I bought a few months ago. As it turns out the rear brake was seized, so I began to pull it apart. I got the dust cover off no prob, however the drum itself is a different story. She won't come off. I've tried heating, PB Blasting, and banging with a hammer, but I've made no progress. I'm not familiar with the 110's, so my question is can I pound the right (brake) side of the axle with the idea that it will slide out of the axle housing/carrier forcing the brake drum to pop off? As you can see from the pics, I have the whole rear axle assembly off the trike. My other question is, how do I remove the sprocket? I've removed all the mounting hardware that I thought would hold it on, but the sprocket won't slide off the axle. I see in the Honda parts diagram that there's a snap ring in there. Does this need to be removed to get the sprocket off?
Thanks guys for any help you can offer :beer
yea you can knock on the brake side of the axle to jar it out of the drum. Make sure you do it in a way so as not to mushroom the end of the axle. I made that mistake.
As for the sprocket, I know the earlier model ones the sprocket mounted to the backside of the sprocket hub so it couldn't be removed unless the axle was out

I SHOULD be able to tell you exactly how to do this because I did the same disassembly one year ago on my 125. But my memory sucks and I don't remember what particular tricks I used. Here is my thread from then, there are a few pictures of the hub already disassembled. I remember the part in the manual about the split ring holding the sprocket on but my split ring was missing. At any rate that won't help get the axle off you have to remove it from the brake drum side I think. I think I used a rubber mallet to tap on the brake drum side of the axle, spray down the drum where it mates the splines real good first with pb blaster (or your penetrating oil choice, but pb worked really great for me numerous times) and let that soak. Maybe try some gentle heat in that same area too. If none of these things work and you have to go to a bigger hammer, be mindful of what CJ said...don't bang on the axle end without a hardwood block. Just be patient and methodical, my brakes were seized on the inside too and that contributed to the brake drum not wanting to let go.

Good luck and let us know how your progress goes.

there should be a snap ring holding the sprocket on if i'm not mistaken.
