Are the stators the same for a 86-87 Tecate and the 84-85 Tecate?

Yes. I swapped stators from my 84 to my 86 one time with no problems at all.

Are you talking about the timing slot location compared to the two holes in the outer part? Also the number of indentions toward the top on the side skirt?

Obviously some minor differences. I never noticed any difference in how it ran when I switched mine.

They both suck because the magnets are glued on. :D
