Nice find for $250, what's the story on the engine, the chassis looks solid.

Check out the swingarm, is it aftermarket?

JMiller

the motor needs to be rebuilt. Top end and possibly crank seals.

Definately not a stocker, neither is that exhaust from what I can see of it. Damn you for getting this kind of stuff that cheap! LoL

In the DK catalog they sell cylinder sleeves, does anyone know who can install it for me? Also, the guy who I bought it from painted all the plastics and tank a crappy green color, but underneath the paint it looks like the plastic is red. Did these bikes come in red from the factory?

Any competent motorcycle shop/dealer can re-sleeve your cylinder, and yes, there actually were stock red tecates, I saw one on here one time, and I couldnt believe it, I never knew that some came from the factory red, they were pretty sweet lookin, but I still prefer the green.

Allot of people don't know, but in 84 the KDX200 Also came in red. I have an article about it in a 1984 Dirt Rider mag. There's a red KDX on the cover. Kawasaki was testing to see if they were losing sales because of the color green they were using. I've hung onto this mag because it has the only red KDX I've ever seen and the last test of the Yellow Yamaha YZ250, but thats a different story.

My 84 KXT was a red one.

JMiller, get a better pic of the swingarm. It looks like a gold painted WestCoast. Is the linkage mount on the swingarm a bolted on piece of cast aluminum with two positions to bolt to? If so, it will have West Coast name cast into it.

I'll post some more pics of the swingarm later. The axel carrier has PK Racing Products on it. Has anyone heard of them?

my axil carrier on my tecate has JP Racing sticker on it....i think it is aftermarket but not sure...that sticker is a solid one it's liek 1/16 thick like a decal...it survived sandblasting...

BigGreenMachine

Great, can't wait to see the after pics.
That must have been one tough-ass sticker to survive sand blasting!

Waiting on the topend and painting for mine, going to do the frame and front grill red, silver swinger and green or red grill. Too cold to paint right now so give it a month or two.

I stripped the tank and front fender, sanded then painted red. The rear fenders are new Maier low profile that I bought from Chaparral. I'm just waiting for the CDI I bought off ebay and my new stator to arrive then I can take her riding. Cant wait!!! :-D :?: :-D

About your rims, I would paint them silver or just buy new ones...(chromed 8) )...that would look awesome, I think...

If I were you, the gold rims would stay. I think they look awesome on there. Great job on the resto.

paint them silver and then paint the hubs red, the hubs will show thru and look cool...

For a better look, switch to polished aluminum rims. Get 8x8 rims for the back and install 20" rear tires. Those 10x10 steel rims are anchors. :D

JMiller

what is the bolt patern measurments for the rear rims?

Bolt pattern I believe is 4 x 156 mm
I got a Tecate basket so I have 84 and 85 parts on it but thats what my hubs are. I bought ITP T9 Pro series Aluminum rims for the rear and Powder coated the front chrome with metal flake

4 bolts 156 mm = 6 1/8" from center to center of studs

Jeb

Stock 84 hubs are smaller. they are 4 x 100 or 110. Have to look it up.
