Hi Everyone,
thanks for stopping by and read my ''introduction'' post :)
So I'm Piet a 23 year old International business and management student from The Netherlands. I've always been passionated about trikes, especially the Tri-z's!! Don't ask me why but I figure you guys would understand :D So quite recently i've found out we can get them on a license plate here in Holland. So I picked up a, as i found out later, project. Bought a 85 (5speed) yamaha tri-z that havent had such hard time. Found it at a local farmer who had it for 15 years in his barn.
Ofcourse it had some wear to it and it didn't run but as it is my first two stroke project i'd decided to give it a shot. Quite soon after i found out that the piston was blown (part of it got lost somewhere) so i figure the guy who sold it to me must have known it as the membrane was replaced and couldn't find the part missing from my piston. :P Just purchased a YZ250 piston (total topend) and am currently waiting for the parts.
So i figured to rebuild the trike totally and bring it back to its original state :D As it is here in Holland really hard to find some proper parts it will be a long shot to see if i can get my yellow front fender and right radiator fender replaced.
Anyways thanks for this insane amount of useful information at this forum! :D

After cleaning the carb, ordering a new sparkplug (the original) it fired up and drove quite ok. Then I decided to give all the black parts some new paint as they became quite rosty over its existence :P
Then I was thinking i had some issue's as it didn't start that well anymore. So i started digging and found this...

Yesterday I had the idea to take it up to the next level :P
Hope you guys like the pictures :D Keep you all posted of this project ;)
(if anyone has the yellow front fender and right radiator plastics i'd be more then happy to take them off your hands :D )

Welcome. That looks like a big piece of piston that's missing. You might want to split the cases to try to find it. If it's in your bottom end, it could cost you a lot more money. Just my advice.

thanks for your advice! But already done that ;) there even was a little part of the piston stuck in the crankshaft.
I think the big piece went into the membrane as that was replaced by its last owner......
I would recommend a new waterpump and seal since you have it torn down the impeller is plastic and cracks over time and spins on the shaft.

Thanks great tips!! I will defiantly replace the waterpump, even though it looks good still i rather replace it anyways then :D

Engine is back together with new piston/topend and new waterpump :D Thanks for the tips guys, even though the old waterpump was still good it always feels better to just know its all new :D
I also painted the frame and had it for a heat treatment last night so that i could start on the trike this afternoon. Today i got this far (see picture), hope to continue tomorrow night :D

You work fast. You made the right choice by replacing the water pump parts. They may have felt good, but if original, the old ones were 30 years old. Glad to hear it runs. Keep up the good work.

Hi Mark,
An aftermarket exhaust would be the next thing on the list as soon as I got the license plate ;) The original pipe is quite quiet and thus preferred for the RDW. (license plate authority)
Also here in the Netherlands it's quite hard to get aftermarket parts for the trike. So I've got to order everything from the states.....i figured that I was born in the wrong country :P

i cant say for sure, but you just may find a member here with an aftermarket exhaust that would ship to you if shipping isnt too high. as far as being born in the wrong country, well, thats up for debate...lmao...our president doesnt exactly have a fan club website that im aware of...lol
