My little guy is getting older fast. I still got some time, but it seems to go by faster now. So it's time to get something going.

(We aren't soccer fans, My father in law is from Brazil so His grandson has to wear the colors for the World Cup) :)
Keep in mind I am also building the 300 and have to go through the top end in the X soon so it may be slow for a bit. I picked this up while on vacation in Virginia for pocket change basically, Plan to go through it, repair, rebuild, and upgrade a little while keeping it safe for a child.
Looks to be originally red with a yellow seat. But someone got some spray paint and vinyl and decided the blue one looked cooler....Damn they laid that paint on thick...Mr. Razor Blade and I are going to be fast friends.

I got it back to Michigan and started to look into it.

Not too bad of a start, Has a new "OEMSTD" carb, and the original in a box. I may just clean the original and put it back on for now. Rear tires are good, Front is shot. Brakes work, Missing recoil, and doesn't seem to have good spark. But all good other than that so far.
I have a new coil on the way since the spark looked kinda weak, and it doesn't seem to even try and pop. Plug gets wet after pulling for a bit. Oil tank is empty and I have pre-mix in the fuel tank. It also looks like it's missing the choke lever. And I haven't found a good pic of where one is mounted. Anyone have a close up of the lever?
My plan is to wake it up a bit with a PW80 carb and proper manifold, PW50 clutch springs (I have to look into this again, I may be thinking of a different project), Aftermarket pipe and head shaving a bit. Or if any other bigger jugs bolt on? Fix the plastics, seat and just have fun with it until Mikey can ride it.
Oil pump gear is coming out, and the pump is coming off so I will need a block off plate I believe, The hoses are all goofed from the PO.... so I'd rather pre-mix and be sure it's oiled than sort this mess and hope it didn't fail anyway.
If anyone has any suggestions for the no start I'm open to all suggestions :)
I have also posted an ad looking for parts, Check it out if you think you can help. WTB: Zinger Parts (http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/169612-WTB-Zinger-Parts)

Looking good. Hope the plastics aren't destroyed. Zingers seems to be hard to find. I've seen exactly one in my life and couldn't believe how small it was. It was a white one in fact.
Good luck with it, keep us informed. Who knows, you might make the front page ;)

Plastics are really good shape, the minimal oxidation comes right off with the paint almost. Still going to have quite a few more hours scraping, but it's worth it in the end.
Just gotta get a yellow seat or seat cover and the decals for the red/yellow zingers and it's looking good :)

I had one for a short while recently. They are really small and surprisingly fast even stock. Just too small for me to keep around.
Just a shot in the dark, but the "no spark" might just be a kill switch position thing.
As stock, the switch has 3 positions: off-run-start
If it still has both ignition boxes, you will only get spark in the "start" position when spinning by had or recoil. No spark in "run".
The "start" position has a rev limiter, too.
The idea is to start it in "start" and switch to "run" once running.
I read many have the 2nd ignition box removed or bypassed - then they start and run in "run" with no issues.
Might also be the tether kill switch on the back is tripped.
When I got mine, the main jet was plugged worse than any I've ever seen. I put a $15 eBay carb on it and it ran like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro no matter what I did. I reamed the stock main jet with a welding tip cleaner, cleaned the rest of the stock carb and put it back on. It ran great after that. I put the eBay carb in the trash.
Does yours have a filter in the airbox - just curious - mine had a men's dress sock for a filter.
Good luck - Zingers are great fun!
Some pics...

Even more cleaning. scraping and sanding plastics today. No pictures, more of the same.
I was going to meet with Joe D while I was down there for an atc 70. But he was 3 hours away and this came up within 20 minutes from me for a good enough price.
My boy is all over it, He won't stay off haha
JB2Wheels, Yeah, the decal on the switch is still good so I noticed there was a "start" position immediately. I did not know about the tether the first day I had it, but found it real quick. And of course....Somewhere between Virginia, and Michigan.....I managed to lose the damn tab for it.. :) So it's bypassed until I come across one or mine... No filter in it at all. I have one coming as well
Do you have a link to any info on bypassing the second box?

As I recall, you can just unplug it, but it's been a while since I looked.

Cool, while I do not think it is the problem I learned while I was younger to check the things you don't expect haha. I am almost confident that it's weak spark but time will tell. I will tinker with it a bit more and post up once I nail it down

I picked up as much aftermarket parts as I could find a few years ago. My kids will end up riding them when they are old enough, they were modded for adults to ride. Swapping out the reeds is a cheap way to improve it, the DG pipes are still available new for less than 200 shipped.
Those billet wheel spacers on eBay are cool, I've got a set of them. Hagen makes nice pegs and some other things, he was making billet gas caps,,, still waiting...
Molassi makes 70cc big bore kits and a few upgrades, I got 2 of them and make a lot of difference. My red zinger has the smallest wheels on it and it rips! I wish I had better video, the tri zingers run well in the cold too.
If you want a slower machine for starters, you could always put on a 50cc jug.
Here's a vid my zinger, fast foward like 5 mins,

Yeah, for my son to start it will have to easily go back to stock, or close to it performance-wise. I fully intend on using it myself until then :)
More razors, and blisters, and razors....
Half way done! I think some of the original tank sticker is still there, It is tough in that spot but I gotta wait a few days till I can feel my fingertips again.
200206
And now my garage looks like I threw confetti everywhere since this thing has been painted yellow, red, yellow again, then blue......Damn people
200207
Paint is pretty thick everywhere on the plastics.
200208
It really sucks scraping all this, BUT completely worth it. Now someone can buy a really nice zinger from me if I decide I still want a 70 after this is done :)

you might wipe on some brake fluid let it set will help soften that paint making it some easier to scrape off

After tearing it down more to fully go through it, I found this..

So I tore it down more and found this....Which honestly wasn't all that surprising.

Pretty sure the oil pump failed and the PO had no clue. OR he ran it without it hooked up since it was not hooked up when I loaded it..I'm betting on #2
Eh, Now I'm on moped forums learning about what jugs swap over with little to no mods...Looks like I can get 70cc out of this for a reasonable price.. :) Gotta dig more.
OH! The plastics are 98% finished! I'm holding out, but it looks good :)

I wanted a 70 ultimately, but this came up for a price I couldn't pass on. Even with the work that needs to be done, I'm still ahead :) I might still replace it with a 70 at some point, or just get a 70 also..
I still got a few more years before he can even try to ride it though, He will be on his powerwheels for a while.
(This was earlier this summer, I think he was just under a year old)

I've been looking for a 70 as well for my son. Slim pickings in my area and i don't have the time to travel very far at the moment. Good luck with the zinger! Looks like a fun project!

Very cool project....I have a Zinger that both of my boys learned how to ride on. Over the years I have bought a ton of NOS parts to do the proper restoration with my boys. The problem is we all still love to ride it....LOL. Anyway, does anyone know where to find the fork dust caps and fork springs?
Thanks,

Thanks for the comments! Not too sure on the fork parts, probably look on ebay would be my best bet.
It's pretty much ready to go. Just need to find grips for those little handlebars. I have found some, but they are like an inch too long at least. Don't want to have to cut the new ones. Other than that, it will sit until December or so..Thats when I order the 70cc kit :)
I will update this as more happens

I have been looking for about 5 years and have had no luck. I could buy used forks, but most are missing the dust caps, or they are ripped.

A little more progress, Got a front tire I had laying around from the gokart. So tires are set now, and I got a new top end coming in monday for this thing. I saw a pullstart on here for a reasonable price but ended up with the top end. Hopefully it's still around when I can get it
