About 3 years ago my 250SX started acting up with fuel, and it got parked for a bit. I opened it up a few days ago and this is what I found. Keeping in mind that I'm no carb expert, should I put this one aside and find me a cleaner one? The slow jet is stuck so bad the screw slots broke when I tried unscrewing it, and the float valve assembly is not moving. It's been soaking in Kroil for about 24 hours and I'm not seeing it get any better. And all that crud on the towel, that came out of the bowl.

I would have to concur that your carb is beyond economical repair. You can send it to me and I can try to salvage it. If I can't, I can rebuild one of my spares for 150.00 shipped.

Wow, did you get water in there?

Almost every carb can be cleaned or repaired unless there is physical damage to the body. Hopefully that #1 phillips is just looking for a photo op, because it should never touch a carb screw....

A tip for anybody removing idle jets...If your flat screwdriver doesnt completely fill the slot to remove it, get it away from your carb.

At this point time, money, and headache would no doubt be saved by getting a freshly built carb from FlyingW.

Flyingw I sent you a PM.

As far as water in the carb, no, that couldn't have been an issue. The last time I rode it I had to keep the choke on to make it back, but it still ran relatively okay.

And the screwdriver (under it) was used to take off the float bowl and prop it up only. From what I could see of the slow jet the slotted screwdriver fit pretty well, I think it was just seized too tightly.

the driver propping the carb is a #2, the correct size for bowl screws if you don't have metric drivers, the one alone on the towel is the #1. Don't get me wrong brother, I wasn't there when you took it apart. Just a couple tips.

Are those remnants of a filter? Saw that on a Kawai bayou of a friends last year after sitting awhile damn ethanol does more harm than good. And seeing parts stating not compatible with 10% ethanol gotta hope people spend more for premium yea right

Many guys who have put those aftermarket carbs in have reported problems with the engine not running right and some have said they run good so its a bit of a crap shoot.

Kerley, if you want your SX to run amazing, turn your carb over to Jim. Pull the trigger, spend the money, and don't look back. He has done two carbs for me. Trust me when I say you won't be disappointed.
