so i got these girls which makes 3 atc wheelers bought this week . traded a bad hydrostat rider for a 79 atc 110 . looks rough but runs. Then an 85 200x for 200 . bad tires missing brakes no compression. bad return spring. but the rest is there. Then this really nice 85 200x for 800 and came with a nice 10" set of flat track tires on nice rimes with new clutch kit and gasket kit. and some other lil parts. doesnt smoke a bit and runs great thru the gears but return spring in it is bad too. So i ride the thing around and it doesnt like to idle. The guy i got it from says he took it to a bike shop and they messed with the jets. right now it has a 110 main, 48 idle pilot, 104 needle set at the 2nd clip from bottom. you can stop and it will idle high then clutch out a lil to go and then clutch back in and it will idle nice and low and then throttle it and it will idle high again. throttle not sticking. float level is correct . just a lil below the bowl. i sprayed brake cleaner all around carb to see if i have a vac leak . but she never change the way she ran as i hosed down the intake area ,carb, and air filter inlet area.. trike has new k&n air filter and dg pipe. should i step a number higher on idle jet. air mixture screw and spring look great . needle looks to be new. carb is spotless. help please thanks guys.

Should have a #40 small jet , a #48 is way to big . I would try a new carb kit and play with needle adjustments and make sure to replace the needle seat very important . If no difference then another oem donor carb will be needed and install the kit in it .

+1.....your pilot is too big. Like mike said a #40 is stock for an 85, and generally even a piped X only needs a #42. Clean or replace the plug as well now.
I see now that you are running the DG pipe. I'd start by getting a 42. Do us a favor,,,let us know.
P.S....your 110 main is probably a bit lean with a k&n and a pipe. I'd order a 112 and a 118 to tune.

THANKS GUYS! went and got a 112 and 118 main today but noone had the idle jet. i think i am gonna solder the 48 and have my buddy drill them to 42 . hes got this real cute snap on jet drill set. its like micromachines but with drill bits. once i do that i will report. oh and shortline ,ill be hitting you up on a cam and return spring sometime.

they like 40 slow jets, that motor does not need a lot of fuel

ok so me and george played with her tonight and he thinks the valves may be tight. i currently have it jetted at 112main,42 pilot, air set 3 turns out. the tighter u go with mixture ,she burbles and dies. i have again sprayed carb cleaner in every nook and krany with no audiable rpm change. what tolerance are the valves to be. could timing be the problem . i will say riding it around it responds better than the old set up . but still no idle unless i set it real high and then slowly will die out. needle is set in the middle slot. its also hell to get it started again.

Improvement is good.
Intake .003, ex. .004. Check the clearance with the motor cold at tdcc.
Your mix screw is a fuel screw, not an air screw. Tighter equals leaner.
Did you clean or replace the plug?
What is the float height?.....
