Alright be easy on me here these questions might sound dumb so here we go. I rebuilt my tecate and have a tank of gas through it and have started really getting on it. Is it normal for it to rev out rediculously fast? Like if i put it wide open in 1-3 it immediately just spins the tires and revs out. It is really really low geared. The sprocket sizes are 13/42 which i think is stock and im running 22 11 10 fast trekkers. Its hard to explain over the internet but my old 86 250r just pulled through the gears, it seems like this tecate just revs out so fast. The clutch is definately not slipping. Im thinking its a gearing issue but wanting to ask people who have rode other tecates(this is my first one).

Check your plug, as long as it's not white you should be good. Try driving it on pavement to see if it still revs out that fast when it's not spinning.

With knobbies, my current Tecate spins through all 5 gears. Not with paddles.
The green one I sold spun any tire anywhere. I have seller's remorse about that one.

I think he means the gearing is really steep and it tops out really fast. My impression of my 86 and my 84 I had was that you hit 5th gear in no time and you would keep on shifting hoping for more but there was none left. You get there real fast but it only feels like you are going 55-60 MPH. And you probably are.
I had a KX250 motor in my 84 though and I think my 86 has a KX250 motor in it now too. The gearing is even steeper in those. The primary gear and clutch basket gear have a different number of teeth and the trans gears are slightly different too. Is your exhaust port split (KX250 top end)?
1st gear is so steep and short that to me it was completely a waste of time to use it if you were just going to launch and haul ass.
13/42 gearing is quite appropriate for 22 inch tires.

On pavement and on the low end of any gear 1-5, if i blip the throttle to full it will stand straight up. I have rode lots of air/liquid 250r so im familiar with riding 2 stroke three wheelers but this thing has more torque than my 350x lol. The top end does not have a exhaust bridge.

I think I used 13/40 gearing on mine with the stock 22" and cold cutter ice screws. I didnt ride it on pavement and hammer the throttle, but it still did wheelies on the ice and snow.
Check out my parts that swap thread as there are a ton of rear sprocket options using polaris part numbers.
