Will 85-86 250r shifter work on 2nd gen 250r?

My splines on my 84's shifter are completely trashed and I wanted to get a nice aftermarket one but it seems they only make aftermarket ones for the 85-86 250r.

So if anyone has ever tried using a 3rd gen shifter on a 2nd gen let me know your results!

Or if you know someone who makes aftermarket ones for a 2nd gen let me know I would appreciate it! :)

i have a couple OEM 83/84 shifters with good splines.

i am not aware of anyone making an aftermarket 2nd gen shifter.

due to the offset of the shifter to compensate for the short shift shaft, i doubt a 3rd gen shifter would work. it probably wont clear the clutch side cover
